Default Weird Street series binding issue.

I recently purchased a used GTR Street series XMOD and decided to add some RS upgrades to it. Here is a list of what I have installed so far:

-Evo series awd kit
-Evo series suspension drop plates *
-Evo series springs *
-Evo series extended axles all around *
-Street series stage 2 motor upgrade (I think I went with a 9-23 setup)

I have been having a weird (what seems to be) "binding" problem and have spent hours today trying to figure it out. All of the Evo series upgrades are supposed to work on the Street series, but this is the first time that I have installed an awd kit on a Street chassis and I was curious if that could be the culprit. Are the shafts in the Street series awd kits sized different than the shafts that come in the Evo series awd kits? Since I am using an old set of rechargeable batteries, would there be a chance that the motor is not getting enough voltage to turn the gears? I have been able to get it to work in reverse from time to time, but it would struggle to accomplish that and I could never get it to go forward. I installed the same setup on a known working Street series chassis and it done the same thing. Any ideas? I am almost stumped and I probably missed over something. I am out of ideas and frustrated, so any help would be appreciated. By the way, I put a star beside the upgrades that I have installed on another Street chassis with no problems.

I had the same problem with my gen3 370z. I put the awd in it, ran great for about a week, then just binded up. Once i took the awd out, the car ran great again. It was almost like somone pored super glue in the front diff. I havent tried awd in any other street series xmod. I tried cleaning it, i replace the whole intire awd setup, nothing worked. I know this doesnt help you but i just thought id share my story.

The only thing i can think of is to check and make sure your drive shaft isnt to long.

mine seems to have no problem at all. try to shave off or file down about 1mm of the back side of both the bevel gears that is on the shaft right where the shft slides into the gear. i have that done to mine and it never has been an issue.

Have you tried bearings?

Regular Evo's have ALOT of play in the driveline, and bearings seem to help. I'm not sure if the cars have the third gear/idler, if they do, the bearings there help tremendously.

You might want to try some fresh non-rechargable batteries though.

I haven't tried bearings yet, but I was thinking that maybe it was all of the slop in the driveline that could be causing the binding. Has anyone tried the Street series awd kit in a Sreet series chassis?

UPDATE: I done some more tinkering with the car and came up with a few more things. The car will only work in reverse with the stage 1 motor. When I swap out the stage 1 motor for the stage 2 motor, the car will not work in forward or reverse.

I would check make sure the gear ratios are right and definitly check your drive shaft length.

Try to make sure that none of the screws are catching where the dogbone enters the knuckle. Mine was acting up as-descibed when I was manually spinning the wheels, and so i disected it, and I was the screw was pretruding into the knuckle. When I turned the car on after I loosened out the screw it was just fine. But I think that one was from the Evo series. The one that I got from the Street series still works just fine.

It doesn't seem to be anything to do with the driveshaft since it doesn't bind when I try to drive the car in reverse (with the stage 1 motor). The gear ratios are also correct as i have used the stock gear ratio with no luck.

Did your car run in reverse and not forward? It seems like a problem like that would cause the car to not run in any direction.

By as-described I meant as descibed in the first few posts.

That happened to me when i put 7 AAA's on an xmod with a stage 2. The stage 2 became slow becuase of the friction then the circuit blew and it only went back wards. And I would try screwing the screws on the motor tighter cause that's what I did to fix the same problem on my F-150.
