when u first buy an xmod it has clearcoat already on it so when u smack into stuff the paint doesnt come off that easily

if u were to just try and paint over the clearcoat thats on a factory painted car the paint will
1. be very thick when ur done from all the layers of paint and...
2. ur paint most likey wont bond properly and will eventualy crack

by sanding off the factory paint along with the protective layer of primer...
1. the paint wont b all thick and wont crack eventually
2. with the clearcoat and as much paint as u can get sanded off the new primer u spray on will stick to the natural plastic extremely well

that along with masking off the windows and washing off ur car in warm soapy water, then drying it of course, will ensure that ur car is ready to b painted

and there u hav it, my shortish but informative response to y u need to sand ur car b4 painting

o yea!! make sure u to look at my car in its current form on the first page of this thread so u kno what it looked like

i just bought the Blue and the clearcoat for my NSX today
so ill b painting the pieces
the blue isnt really a cobalt, i dont think
its mor a dark metalic blue, but it'll be good looking just the same
its better than the factory "Big Bird Yellow"
im leaving the hood, rear wing base and rear wing ends primer dark grey cauz it looks like dry carbon, im still gonna clearcoat them though to hav those peices protected

i think ill keep the side mirrors like that too so they look like dry carbon

its 91 degrees rite now so everything will dry quickly but regardless of the 15minute drying period i think ill leave the peices out for 2hours or so

but im gonna stick with it
im sure ill still like it when im done
starring st it in the sun is crazy, its really really really metalic looking and it was only a light first coat
i think it mite calm down a little when i put the clearcoat on it but hey guess ill just hav to wait and see
