Ok i gave in and decided to take my freahly painted car under the knife and create a wide-body r8. couldnt find any styrene so im trying this molding stuff i found at Micheal's. this is what i have so far:

sanded and prepped body

cut up an old libary card to use for under spoiler and rear diffuser

cut out bottom rear section to make room for rear diffuser

used a sudafed box as a brace for the diffuser while it dries together

here is the front end coming together

and here it is with the back end

now just gotta wait for everything to dry so i can sand, sand, sand, and did i mention sand? lol

one thing i learned from making wide body kits is that 3mm on each side is probably wide enough (if you're trying to scale it).
anything more is a little overkill since you'll have to reverse your tires, and then you'll have to shave down inside the wheel wells.
then it gets extremely heavy haha :P

i like the goal you set though! looking forward to its progress!

its taken me awhile but im taking my time and not trying to mess up seeing this is my first project but its coming along. i have laid down some primer to help see the high spots. i still have more sanding to do and need to carve the body lines but here's the progress so far

I have to say, it looks incredible for a wide body! I say this because it is rather clean and not too extreme like most you see. Nice to see a unique R8 as well. Good luck with it!

Yummy. I wouldn't touch it after paint for the next 2 weeks to let putty cure and paint cure too. (:

It looks cool. I wonder will the wheel touch the inner fenders if suspension is pressed.

i grinded down the inner fenders. i still have to grind a lil more on them since there is a lil rubbing when i make full turns. but im going to wait until i get some deep rims to match the body kit first.
