GEN1 Prototype Motor Fan
The setup in my subaru runs very hot, after about 10 minutes of runtime, the motor and the motor mount get so hot that it burns my fingers if i touched it for more than a second, so i needed to come up with a cooling solution. It seemed I had a couple different options to go with for a cooling setup, an oil (or water cooled) setup, which is absolutely rediculous and totally out of the question for a performance machine. This left me with the motor fan option, of which i have a working prototype right now.
The setup is very simply; it's a 30 mm by 30 mm fan hooked up to a command logic plug so that i can plug it into the accessory outlet on the board. it seems to work very well, however I haven't been able to do any tests and while i was trying, the batteries died, so i will do some tests tomorrow and post the results in this thread. If this setup does not give me the results i'm looking for, then i am going to modify and install a CPU heatsink under the fan to allow for more contact area with the air.

thanks and i have some results, although i dont have any scientific sort of tests, just things i obeserved while driving it. i have to start out by saying that the batteries did not have a full charge so that would have affected how the car ran.
just by touching the motor, after about ten minutes of constant use, it was much cooler, it didn't burn my fingers, but at the same time, the only reason i checked was because the batteries were dead (remember i am running a 7.4 V lith setup). Again the batteries were not fully charged, but i would have thought that they would have lasted longer than ten minutes. i do believe another test is in order but that will have to wait for another night.

plus the long hours that went into building it, plus one blown board, and some other stuff... i'd say ive put close to 400 CAD into it.

hey sorry it took so long to reply, i was away on a snowboarding trip. but thanks for all the compliments guys. I just have a bit of an update to add to this project.
I managed to find some little heatsinks that came out of an old computer monitor that are just about the right size, just some minor bandsaw work and i can get one of those to fit perfectly, and still have room for the fan. The fan really seems to wear down the batteries quickly, even though I am running liths, the car dies in about 15 minutes on nearly fully charged batteries. anyone have any light weight ideas about how i could power the fan seperately from the xmod powersource?
