Anyone have a track like the RCP ones?
Have a track at home? I am thinking of getting one, possibly making it with foam mats and PVC piping or just getting one from tinyrc.com. Looking for ideas, post pics or links please. If you have the RCP, I have a question. How is the smooth side textured or coated? (picture)

I have both made my own track from foam mats, plus have an RCP track.
Here is the one I made................ I made the barriers from pool noodles and cut pieces of mat. Sorry but I never took a full pic of my RCP track. The smooth side of the RCP seems similar to the regular foam mat, but I've never personally tried it. here is a close up pic of one of my xmods on the textured side of an RCP tile(you can see the texture) The textured side of an RCP track provides far more grip than the foam mats ever could. I even tried adding texture the foam mats with a wire brush, which helped a little but still wasn't even close to RCP. I had to run some soft miniZ radial tires on my cars to get any kind of decent cornering speed on the foam mats.(keep in mind I was used to racing mini-Z on large RCP tracks) RCP tracks are far superior to the home made foam mat tracks, but they come with a much greater price tag. A home made foam track is much better than nothing, but if you can afford it then get the RCP.

I think two Wide L's is a really good home track (if you can fit it somewhere)

Well said. That's exactly what I would recommend if you can afford it.

My reasoning for the mini-96 vs the 2 wide L's would be as follows: I don't always have enough room for a large layout. I can periodically do a huge track, but need to pick things up after I'm done. The mini-96 is (of course) compact and easy to lay down for solo driving and tuning. Just add in the expansion pack when/if other racers are available. I haven't down the math to see what the costs are for a mini-96 w/expasion pack vs 2 wide L's.

Thanks for everyone's input, I decided to get 2 wide L. Didn't realize how big it was. Only have one setup so far. Will have to make some room to expand it.
Having the track was probably the best investment for playing with 1:28 scale cars. Would highly recommend getting some kind of track to anyone looking to stay with this as a hobby.
