Painted straws do work well, but can look a little sloppy, especially if only superglued on to the chassis. I'd go with a more realistic approach, such as the mufflers from the various body kits.

Why bother with a muffler, the car is electric for crying out loud. I mock anyone I see with a fart can, don't make me start laughing at little RC cars with miniature (sp?) coffee cans taped to the bumper. Nothing wrong with asking your mom, but if you ARE young enough to ask, wait a bit, you'll grow out of the rice and onto actual performance quickly (I hope).
