Default Bearings

Hey guys! Can someone suggest which set of bearings I should go with on a Generation 1 XMOD? Are the Radio Shack bearings the best to go with or would something like the VXB Ball Bearings on Ebay? Here is a link to what I am talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/XMODS-upgrade-Me...3A1%7C294%3A50

It depends what you're doing. The Radioshack bearings are the cheapest, lowest quality, but the best for your money.

If your in to racing or something else go ceramic. I'm going to look at those bearings now, they seem fine.

RS are Ball bearing, unshielded.

EDIT:

I say go for those as Radioshack upgrades are kinda hard to find, those are shipped to door, and seem to be good quality.

I can vouch for the VXB bearings.

Have a standard set for the Gen 1s, better than any RadioShack set (unmodified) that I've had and they are excellent quality. I don't know about the Evolution ones though.

Get VXBs over RadioShack unless you're looking to go all OEM.

I liked my bearing from AtomicMods. Super smooth, you can even go ceramic.
Stick with name brand bearings and a good lube.

GPM parts are built to be the same dimensions as the plastic parts, so go for it.

Only GPM parts I ever had trouble with where the rear arms. They where somehow tweaked, but whatever. They were purple. Nuf said. The Dogbones and Cups and CVD's are spot on and SMOOTH.

The early model cups from AtomicMods (ya'll remember them?) had to be sanded though.

alright, thanks guys. I will try the set from ebay to see how they work out on the GPM parts.

Does anyone suggest lubricated them before installing them?

Yes, it is a good idea to lubricate the bearings before you install them. Lubricating bearings usually increases the life of them as well as keeping the friction levels down. After you use them for a couple months, it is a good practice to take them back out, clean them, and then relubricate them.

he asked what lube.
you can probably use normal light machine oil OR you can buy synthetic bearing oil like tribo or slick zero orsome other oil brand. ceramics don't need as much maintainance if that's what you're looking for, but they also are expensive and have low size tolerances

Get closed bearings from VXB and shoot them with electric motor cleaner. (for larger scales) This will get rid out the crappy grease in the stock bearings... the grease slows the bearings down... the motor cleaner gets the grease broken down and allows it to seep out of the bearing.

After you do that you can buy some Slick7 Bearing Oil... I have some and it is very smooth. Lube isn't totally necessary..

I think Y2KY jelly is the best.

Being Y2K compliant, it allows you to insert 4 digits where only 2 would go before!
