Default Not 5-8 feet but rather ~16 feet

Hey there

I recently opened one of my xmod supras and decided to take it for a ride. In a hall close to 1.75 meters wide (about 5 feet), I could only bring my car up 16 feet. Do you think the car is still fine? The ST range was to the max and the antenna was installed and fully extended.

EDIT: sorry this belongs in the how-to forum.

the first thing I would check is your batteries make sure they are all good. When installing the antenna you could have fired your range inductors if you installed your batteries before the antenna and shorted the antenna wire to the battery. Always remove your batteries before working on your xmod.

Yeah, I never work on it with batteries. I'm not sure if it's my batteries or something -antenna? Or maybe the 9 volt (dollar store quality) is starting to get weaker. Whatever it is, I don't like it. Are there any tell tale signs for the shorted inductor? Perhaps smoke? Funny smell?

Yeah usually the car only going a few feet is the biggest, so it sounds like that could be your problem. Check your batteries first like boob_man said. My friend fried his once, and we were both sitting on the floor working on our cars. We never even knew what happened, so it is possible to fry it and not even know.

Is it okay for me to just take it back to thesourceCC (canadian vs of radioshack, now) and ask them to exchange chassis as a part of warranty? I want to keep my supra body! I know it is sort of abusing it, but I followed the instructions. For all they know, I'm a stupid harmless kid who read the instructions. In all honesty I didn't get batteries until I assembled EVERYTHING, in which my range has always been this short. I'm angry and sad.

As for the batteries, which ones? Controller or car?

I suppose you could try but they may know about this type of stuff and say you are SOL. Just to be dumb here too, you are sure your antenna is on your remote right? Also its connected to the car, and the wire is also secure right? I know it sounds dumb, but sometimes the answer is so simple we overlook it.

Yes, the wire loop part is connected to the car so the antenna goes up naturally. The metal piece of the wire touches the antenna. The antenna of the controller is screwed in and extended.

make sure your antenna on controller and the car chassis are installed correctly and tightly. try buying the radio shack rechargable batteries for the car and get energizer or duracell bat.s for the controller...this is what i do and in seem to get a range of about 20-25(rough estament).. yeah, but give this stuff a try... if that doesn't work, well then i guess you could end up following your car wherever it goes!! =P

I hear some people get about 50 feet on this forum without an upgrade kit?

Wait, another thing. If the inductors are fried, can I test if they're fried by removing the antenna and seeing if it goes the same distance (is this accurate and is this how range inductors work?)

Well, I tried the car outside... and I got AT LEAST 100 feet of range. Insane.
