no.

some paints will work straight on the car whereas others won't. tape off the areas that you don't want painted and test it by spraying a bit on the car... if it sticks evenly over the whole car, go ahead and paint the stripes... if not, just sand the areas that you already taped around- that way, no other parts of the car will get scratched. also, be sure to clearcoat the entire thing when you're done, not just the sections you've painted

ya but if u were to do a proper job you would sand it all down with like 300 grit then lay your stripes and clear coat the whole car so you dont have an edge from the orginal color and the stripe then wet sand it at 1500 (lightly or you'll go through the clear and in to the stripe). than clear coat tilll there is no edge any more and buff it with 1600-1700 wet grit and one more light clear coat.

Thats how its done properly!

talk about bringing back an old post nubs

but if he sands down the whole thing, then he'll have to repaint the whole thing or else he'll have scratches on the whole car. if he's just doing stripes, make a light coat for the stripe and of course the rest will be taped off. clearcoat the whole thing when you're done as to get an even coat and equal glossiness around the whole car, not just the stripes

thats why i said 300 GRIT AND LIGHTLY SAND! once the clear is aplyed it will fill the little 300 grit scraches!
