Yea, searching will help you find alot more cheap mods. Also, its not cheep, its cheap.

Next thing to do, is get a good chassis. You can print out a gen.1 chassis, then cut around the paper, and cut the plastic.

Do the tight turn upgrade. All you need is two 3.3k resistors from radio shack. Cost about $1.50. Also, I found a small power gain by shimming the motor mount just a tiny bit, to space the gears apart slightly. Mine meshed together too tightly and was causing a bit of drag. FETs are also cheap if you do them yourself.

Grab a sharpie, draw two parallel lines down the middle, and you got yourself some cheap racing stripes

trim off plastic inside the body like the mounts on the roof for the light upgrade and save some weight for speed

Careful with the fets if you haven't done them before. I lifted a pad on my Mini-Z and now I feel like hanging myself

The upgrades you can do depend on your level of aptitude.

For fairly cheap i could go buy the stuff and create my own lithium kit.

If your really good with soldering and understand the basics of electrical work, go for it do the FET upgrade and tight turns. Both of them can come out to be less than 10$ and they are two very valuable upgrades.

Try searching the "BIC pen Driveshaft" mod (assuming you are using a 2WD car), I made a good tut and it will help decrease the mass of your rotational drive train components. In stupid person terms it will increase your lowend torque dramatically and give you a slightly higher top speed since your motor doesnt have to work as hard to spin your driveshaft.
