this diagram shows the difference in the 2. yes the gen 1 can be adjusted to get the true center. the evo can't. its a solid gear from where the steering arm connects to the pot. not sure how you can adjust that. yeah, you can pull it apart and move it to center, but as soon as you turn it on it will return to where it thinks center is.

Putting a 3-ohm resistor on the left or right wire will either increase steering throw in one direction or another, or throw the steering trim to one direction. If the former, then continue playing with resistors. If the latter, then I guess we could try putting a resistor on the center pot wire. To the original poster: How bad is the problem, and have you checked IF there is a mechanical problem other than the gears vs. potentiometer?
