Thanks, guys.
I got a "test coat" on it today, and I'm surprised to find a fraction of the flaws I expected. I have some more sanding to do around the front fascia, the side pipe outlets, and a little bit of filling on the hood to repair some sanding marks around the bulge. Other than that, it's looking pretty good to me. Next step is to do the sanding and get it ready for topcoat. And while I'm waiting for warmer weather (metallics hate the cold), I can make up my decals and billet grilles. I doubt Eleanor's going to be appearing in any COTM any time soon, with the work left to do; but check back and I'll post pics of progress on the grilles and decals and whatnot. |

Did you custom fab the fender flares? The body kit really looks great. I admire your putty skills.
Keep it up, can't wait to see it painted. |

Yes, I made the fender flares out of stryrene. They're glued on, with just a little bit of fine sanding around the edges to give them shape.
Clear coat? Absolutely. I'm going to clear coat the car after all of the decals and chrome highlights are installed---that way the clear will protect all of the details as well as shine the car up. |

Well, today the weather finally warmed up enough to get some real paint on the car! These are pics of the base coat. I'm going to paint on the chrome trim (around the door windows, windshield, etc), do the stripes, and then clear coat when that's all done.
Also, my Eleanor-correct wheels arrived yesterday, so I have those on the car too. Custom-fab job from my brother, who is working on a similar project. I'm running hard-rubber treads for tires. Thanks for looking! |

Thanks, Floydfan.
The screws in the front end hold the whole nose/fascia onto the rest of the body. I purposely made it removeable so it would be easy to disassemble for repair, in the event of a crash. No glue, and no paint problems associated with the disassembly of fused plastic parts. There will be the billet grille that will cover the screws, but that will also be able to be removed to gain access to the screws, though the hood---which is also removeable (with a lock screw). |

Thanks, Texan. I haven't decided how I'm doing the rally stripes yet, whether I'm painting them on or using decals. Paint would look nicer, but it's also easier to botch it up that way. What would you recommend?

Well, everyone said paint, so that's what I did. All I have updated right now is just the rally stripes you see in the pics. The rest of the details will come soon.
Any ideas for doing a billet grille? Not sure what to use to fab one up. Anyway, here are the pictures. (Rear bumper is missing in this pic because it had to be re-painted and wasn't glued back on yet) Last edited by Camaro98; 04-08-2009 at 07:34 PM.. |

Looks great your work is really paying off. As for the grille maybe some paper clips and make them fit on the inside so you can't see them.

Okay...got a lot done back over last weekend, and I finally got the camera out. Got the decals, clear coat, headlights, tail lights, driving lights, and rear bumper all in place. All that I have left, body-wise, is the grille, backup lights, upper and lower small driving lights in the nose, mirrors, gas cap, and the interior.
Thanks for looking!! |
