Nitro Xmods
I had an idea that you could take a mini nitro engine and transmission and put it on a GEN 1 chassis. here is that kind of engine http://site.wonderhobby.com/CENFTPpics/engine.jpg . Then just mount a small fuel tank on top of the ep. Take and extra steering servo to control the trottle. Do you guys think that this would work?

Nope wont work. Those engines are too big and have too much torque they would shread a Xmod chassis and drive train in a matter of seconds. Please dont waste for money on this it has been juggled around before and been proven that it wont work. Plus you cant just 'add' a steering servo. If you were to do this and im reccomending you dont you would have to change to hobby grade electronics and once you get those good luck fitting hobby grade stuff and engine and a gas tank plus a pipe and air cleaner in a little xmod. If you want a gas/nitro r/c go out a get a real nitro car/truck that is built for it.

Horrible idea, no offense. It would never work, there will never be enough room for it to fit on any x mod chassis, and mounting the motor would be a problem to, but think off all the stuff you have to mount, throttle servo, steering servo, RX, fuel tank, motor, and exhaust. That plastic spur gear wont last long either. I just don't think it will ever work.

Make a custom chasis and slam an xmod body on it.

What if you start from a switchblade chassis and get GPM parts. Get rid of the board and just keep the reciever and steering servo. Then add a trottle servo and put on a fuel tank. And Shaun, No offence taken at all! I knew that this was a very unreasonable idea but i was wonder if you guys think it would work on not.

Not a switchblade....deffinatley not a switchblade....
Do a custom Gen 1 pan chassis, as wide as you can get it. Screw the stock gears and driveshafts, replace all plastic parts with GPM.....I don't know much about nitro cars so I'd have to look into this more. Later, RedSXmodder |

Wow!!! That Would Be Cool
I think this idea is a decent one and not much more than that... The only way i see this even having a decent chance of not breaking in the first few seconds of the run is to make your own custom Titanium chassis or something as strong as Titanium. I would also go with the idea of full GPM for the parts you will need for that anyways. If you do get this idea to work all i can say is i want to see a video of that thing in action.

The problem is mounting it....and not only that, the shafts, gears and diffs.

just use a FULL alloy gen 1 and get some custom mounted/made diffs. like get a mini-t diff in there some how or something. I started a thread like this awhile ago.

That motor runs around 220+*F... So much will melt...
You will need to fit a transmission, have all metal gears, fuel tank, servos, Reciever, fuel line, and fuel filter. Don't. It's a headache, since that's probably a crapy motor. I run nitro, so trust me... Just go to 1/10 or 1/8 nitro and see if you want to go back. I dought you will, I just got an itch when I found a Micro-T under the tree... Oh, and by the way, I run a Traxxas Revo 3.3...

Nitro is the funnest thing ever, people make to big of deal with tuning, I have a xtm mammoth with a 24.7 motor, I love it! As for tunning your truck/car run it for two minutes and then adjust it.

Nothing's impossible, though you can find smaller nitro engines. If I ever get around to doing my B/L Gen1 like RedSX, I see potential for doing a nitro xmod. May be I should do that while Red is doing his B/L speed demon? I've got excellent access to nitro engines at great prices, so its not too long.

The forum is loading slow...
The Revo has handling that you wouldn't believe for a 10 pound truck.. Raised the whole way, it still takes a bit to flip it.. Extremely stable.... The engine is a pain... I have gone through a few bearings already, but it makes boat loads of power... It runs hot, and it's my first Nirto (it's also 100+ in the summer), so it's hard to tune for me. Great truck, except the motor. Get a Revo or a Savage X.... If you have access to Nitro's cheap, then go for it. It's just gonna take alot of custom work, and CNC'ing.... Plus, it will be expensive ($700+).....

700+? why? I was just looking at engines and they have them at hobbytown for 80.00. BRAND NEW. maybe it would be like 2-300 not 700. the most would be the gears, engine, electronics, and chassis.

The motor is not going to hold on on this small chassis. If I would do it, I'm pretty sure its possible, but I probably wouldn't be able to fit on a body...
