It was a good morning.
Pretty cool morning. I stopped in at RS this morning to return an unnecessary AWD kit and pick up a second car so my nephew and I can race. The store manager said she could tell I was into Xmods (really, because I bought two of them in 3 days?), and offered to sell me several opened and “incomplete” cars at a DEEP discount.
Well, I just paid full price (albeit ½ price clearance) for one complete car, and from five incompletes (missing a bolt here, a wheel there), I can most certainly come up with a minimum of 3 full cars and a box of spare parts. I’d be a fool to not hand her back the one I just bought and buy the “scratch and dents”. |

Ok, so my "big score" ended up being a little smaller than anticipated.
My plan was to return the GT-R I had bought earlier for $24.99 and buy ALL FIVE of her used stock/return items at $10 apiece. Well, her boss only agreed to $15 apiece. When I got there, the cars were actually extremely used (note to self, Radio Shack will return ANYTHING ). Out of the lot, there was really only one that looked promising. It was an Audi R8 that had a body in great condition, but "pulled to the left" according the the original owner and notes. Upon inspection, there was also a 30,000 rpm motor (along with several pieces from that Stage 2 upgrade) floating around the box. So I actually bought the R8. It works and runs. It does pull to the left, but I am sure we can get that sorted. Besides, I really wanted it for the body and to have a chassis to learn on by dissecting it. I ended up keeping the GT-R as well. I think I'll keep the box sealed though. It may come in handy one day. Now I have a properly working R8 (since I swapped front clips), a donor chassis in working order (unless I break something while dissecting it), and a 370z body to try my hand at some paint modding. AND... a surplus GT-R. Fun stuff. Can't wait for my aftermarket parts to arrive. Last edited by maxinflixion; 02-23-2010 at 07:05 PM.. |

you can usually get them to come down some, but at 15 a piece. i wouldda bought em. but thats me. did you end up getting them? ive made off with a lot of these from various radioshacks. most of the time they have a wire pop off the board, broken knuckle, etc.

Only bought the R8. I had already gotten a brand new 370z and GT-R at the $24.99 price.
I have gone back and forth on whether or not I should have bought more. They wouldn't go any lower, and really I almost bought none. They were all pretty banged up. I definitely wanted an Audi though Last edited by maxinflixion; 02-23-2010 at 08:33 PM.. |

yeah and you also have to be careful of the shacks SHENANIGANS too...went to Portland this weekend and hit up a bunch of shacks...found one that had about 8 cars left...upon further examination 7 of the 8 were used...opened up a couple( in wrapper and tape on the corners of boxes) to find stickers on the bodies and 2 cars we checked were not functioning...yet they were selling as new...CROOKS...and then the guy said he could sell them for 20....what a joke...
so instead i went to some of the better ones i knew of and got a whole bunch for 20 anyways thanks to the sale and RS survey coupons...yay coupons!!!
