recentered servo, still uneven steering...
i just got the new gtr for xmas,3 days ago, and my steering is un even...it oversteers to the left, and understeers to the right....
i just took it all apart, cleaned everything, recentered the servo, put it all back together and tightened everything up and its still uneven.....even with the car on its back (wheels off the ground) you can turn it and SEE that i turns left way more (not THAT much, but makes a big dif. while rolling) than it does right....any clues? |

2 things cause this. this has a fixed potentiometer, meaning the steering horn connects directly to the potentiometer. meaning you can't recent like on the gen 1 cars. you can put a resistor on the board to fool the board that the steering isn't all the way one way.
the other thing that causes this is the rear differential. i have cars that have the exact same travel one way versus the other but when turning it will turn sharper on one than the other.

the differential problem is torque steer. just do the tight turnz mod on the evo to fool the board into turning both ways lock-lock. i'm about to go and buy some resistors to install.

i read somewhere that you CAN recenter the servo on the evo/street (i could be very wrong, as you guys know WAY more than I do)....and i did what they said to do on the evo 2 recenter it, and cleaned everything....twice, and it still turns one way better....what can i do to fix this?

this steering dillema is really gettin on my nerves....is the tight turn mod the same on the evo/street cars as it is on the gen 1 cars? Last edited by DRFTKO; 12-28-2008 at 11:51 PM.. Reason: double post |

Tight turns is a Gen1 thing. Evos are stuck with what they got..
Have you tried any different differientials? The low-quality of the xmods diff can sometimes give you a diff that has a bias about turning

i haven't actually seen a tight turn kit for the evo, but the gen 1 is a 3.3 k resistor if i remember right. let me hit up radio shack tomorrrow or so and see about coming up with a tutorial for it.

lol, he has a copy of this thread in beginner's questions.
I'm going to go ahead and say my Evo also likes to go to the left more than the right, I think it has something to do with the Diffs and that the right wheel is turning more than the left. |

none of my diffs turn one way better than the other...
probably cuz i tightened them, but the diffs in the stree series don't have the older evo's problems. the light blue diff in the newer evos and streets don't have any issues

Gen1s and my early evos had a habit of it.

depending on your surface your driving on the completely locked diff could cause you issues. i would tighten the diff a little bit, but if you completely lock it at higher speeds your will have steering issues dependant on the surface your running.

well i installed the RS awd kit and it still turns left way better....
so i tightened up the stock light blue rear dif a lil, and it still did it... THEN i completely lock the stock rear dif and it does it worse....in my garage it tq steers like crazy now....i can see both rear wheels spinnin the same speed...and the right front wheel spins super fast, as the left front doesnt spin that much...but with the wheels off the ground all 4 wheels spin and stop the same speed....what can i do?!?! |

is there a tut. on how to do it with the evo/street that i cant find? |

Tight turns only helps Gen1.
Differentials are your problem, try a new rear diff as mentioned before. As far as things slipping, when you lock a diff both tires on that diff spin at the same speed no matter what. With the open diff up front, the tire with the least traction will tend to spin out. That's just how open diffs are
