Default Full Body Paint?

Im possibly getting a 1993 Honda Civic Hatchback soon and the guy mentioned that he does a lot of bodywork and said that its ready for paint. i was wondering for a DIY job with flat black, what would be the best way to approach this?

Well if you really wanted to you could (if not already done so) prime the car and then use an automotive paint to do it in a flat black, if you don't have any spraying equipment you could do it all from rattle cans but obviously that's going to take a while....

I know that there is a special paint, but the name of it escapes me right now, that you can get for doing flat paint effects it has something in it to stop it from weathering which I think is going to be the biggest problem if you use a generic flat black paint, i.e. over time it's going to rub off.

There is a side-step F-150 around by me that is done in full flat black with the paint I mentioned above, the finish looks a little different from regular flat paint, kind of like it is just primed but in talking to the owner that's how the paint works.

Sand the entire car with 220 grit wet sandpaper, tape it up, shoot it with an epoxy sealer primer, block it with 320 grit wet sandpaper, if it's thick enough, leave it be, if not, repeat this process...then spray it with your flat black...one thin coat around the entire car, then 2-3 heavy coats depending on how well the paint covers...sand that down with a 1500-2000 grit wet sandpaper, wipe it all off with a tack cloth then clear it with a clear+flattening agent...http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARD-FA01Q01

Interesting. I believe it might be primered. I'm going to take a look atthe car next week so I'll see what he says about it.

Hit up a local tractor supply place, pick up John Deere "Blitz Black", it's a super tough UV resistant flat black tractor paint. Pretty cheap and very durable. Similar finish to Hot Rodz Flat Black paint which costs tons more. For a Civic, grab a gallon to start. It's better to have too much than too little. I used a little over a gallon on the CRX, but I'm no experience painter so I'm sure lots was wasted...

Pick up a cheap *** air spray gun from Harbor freight and get to work. Paitence is the biggest thing, you're gonna want to rush to get progress.

Black is an unforgiving color, even when flat. Make sure to double check all the body work before you have at it.

Also, I hope you have a really good airconditioning system.
