if you have 6 cell packs, then of course a 6-7 cell charge will work. Just however many cells you have the charger needs to match. 1amp setting is best because it will charge the batteries on there on time and won't rush the charge, basically. but AAA shouldn't be charging on anything over 1amp.

You don't need any bars for the battery packs. you can use them (they look better and are easier. But you can cut short pieces of insulated wire, strip the ends and solder those across the packs as well. the instructions would be the same. Heres a quick step by step.

1. Lay the 4 cells next to each other alternating + and -.

2. Put somthing heavy against both sides so they don't roll apart and drop some krazy glue in between the cells. Let that sit for a couple hours, and they will be Very, very, very stuck together. (very strong)

3. Take an exacto knife and scratch up the center of each end really good so solder will bond.

4. Place soldering iron on ends of cells and touch the solder to the cell. You should get a nice glob on each end.

5. solder the wire(make sure the ends are tinned) or the bars(make sure to scratch them as well) to the terminal ends.

** be sure to use a high watt very hot iron, so the solder will heat fast and you can limit how long you keep the iron on the cell ends. (don't keep them on there long)

Hope that helped. PM me if you have any other questions.
