Please read the Electronics Explanations thread under the Xmods FAQ section of the forum.

Rechargable Nickel-Metal-Hydride batteries offer a higher discharge rate and capacity rate than regular Alkaline batteries. This allows your Xmod to run at a higher speed because more power is being supplied to the electronics as well as run for a longer period of time since more power is available. You would probably notice a good amount of gain in top speed as well as acceleration by using NiMH rather than Alkaline.

Another major plus to NiMH is they're rechargable; many companies garentee their batteries rechargable up to 1000 times! I'd rather spend $15 on a four pack of rechargable NiMH batteries then keep spending $5 on a pack of Alkalines; that's $5000 in batteries over $15!

Alkaline is rated at 1.5V per cell.
Nickel-Metal-Hydride is rated at 1.2V per cell.
Lithium-Polymer and Lithium-Ion is rated at 3.7V per cell.

Also moved to Xmods Electronics since this has to do with batteries.
