Project Rover RC (71 C10)

Well, ive started, and had to stop a couple of my projects so far, cause i either fubar'd it or some one else fubar'd it. But now i got my hands on the manufacturing class's vacu-form... I made some moulds. and made myself a 71 C10 Stepside! Ill see how it goes. And another one will come along soon with moulded detail, and a fleetside. Let me know whatcha think.

A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!! That looks sick! Nice sharpie work too ;)

Lancer_Man 04-30-2008 10:38 PM

Wow, great job on making a custom body. That's definitely not easy to do!

That's great that you have access to a vacu-form machine. There are many uses for that! :D

Keep it up!

Ol'Rover 05-01-2008 07:05 AM

the hardest part was actually making the block moulds. took me 3 days to get them right. After that just let the vacu-form do its thing, and cut it our on the bandsaw.

Ol'Rover 05-04-2008 01:44 PM

updates. and oh baby, this thing hauls arse! ill get a vid after i fix my steering.

um... very creative.;)

theoriganalRiD3R1967 05-04-2008 03:38 PM

thats a good idea! any plans for paint or body add-on/ finishing touches?

Ol'Rover 05-04-2008 04:03 PM

not sure at the moment. Any suggestions? :p Im oben to suggestions on what i could do with it.

im thinking of blue with white roof. And maybe some LED lights if i can find some. I still have to fab up a bed mount so it wont shift around.

fordman239 05-04-2008 04:50 PM

may want to sand around the wheel wells so its not so rough, and paint the body then paint the details that youve already drawn with a sharpie. lol.

Ol'Rover 05-04-2008 05:05 PM

sounds like a plan lol, Me Design/manufacturing teacher is letting me work on it in class which is very nice, I also put a posi- Locker in it lol, stole my lil brothers playdoh and jammed a small peice in the differential. Now it does real good donuts :p

as for painting details should i just use a fine brush or what?

fordman239 05-04-2008 07:36 PM

i would use adhesion promoter first and let that dry and maybe prime it then paint it with some automotive touch up paint.

xmodkidd33 05-04-2008 08:23 PM

Very ingenuitive. I say go and add the smaller details such as door lines, the grille, and other bits on the wood mould with an awl/Dremel. Could the Vacu-form get those smaller parts in the plastic?

Ol'Rover 05-04-2008 08:57 PM

if i have thiner plastic yes.

Ol'Rover 06-15-2008 09:36 PM

well, i put details in the mould, and i msessed it up...so im sticking with my plain one. I recently painted it, and it turned out fairly decent i think. Its not done yet.

ps. what could i use for new Reciever wires, i want to put dual ones on (whips) :P

xmodkidd33 06-16-2008 02:06 PM

18 ga. wire?

I like the looks of it, although the division between the blue and white could have been done neater.
