Remote reverse problems

My son just got his second xmod, and we've run into a strange issue that I'm hoping someone here can resolve...

For clarification, the "problem" car is Barricade, and the "good" car is Bumblebee.

When he was racing Barricade and tried to go into reverse, it continued forward and ran into a wall. After a couple of tries it finally went into reverse. The very next try it failed to go into reverse again, and continues to spend more time wanting to continue forward than anything else (and consequently affects braking as well).

We swapped out the chips from the Barricade remote and the Bumblebee remote (not from the cars), and the problem then occurred with Bumblebee, confirming that it is a remote problem. Barricade worked fine using Bumblebee's remote.

I didn't get the car locally - it was bought on Ebay and arrived in a sealed box. I really don't want to pay this guy more money to ship the remote back based on his claim that he knows a way to fix the remote. Since we're a pretty tech-savvy family, I'm trying to find out what this "fix" might be and just fix it on our own.

Ideas? Forward does work fine every time, its just the reverse/brake that's intermittent. Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

Thanks in advance.

well then toss the crappy remote in the trash but keep the frequency crystals.
BTW you wouldnt happen to know off hand what frequency you have in each car because it may be the frequency that sucks.

the only thing i could suggest would be taking the remote apart and cleaning the contacts where the trigger contacts meet up with the board contacts. if that doesn't fix the problem. get a new remote. pm me if you have any other questions about the remote. later

its something to try rather than just saying trash it. you'll never learn anything if you don't try something to fix it and just throw it away. and with it being a brand new and he shouldn't be having and issue, why is he then? and if it was a frequency problem then why would it just be his car that is having a crappy frequency and not all the other thousands made with that frequency?

if a mod thinks this is innapropriate please delete my post.

when you have 50 some remotes like some people on here, xmodsnut, you keep whats good and toss them after while cuz they get in the way and take up too much space.

zippo855 09-23-2008 01:22 AM

like these. and he asked for something to try to fix it. your missing the whole point. i have 30 to 40 remotes, but if one is messing up ill try to fix it before just tossing it. and after a while sometimes the remotes do crap out, but like you pointed out, its a new car dude.

oh well try it then but if it dont work just send him a good one for shipping costs.
I am kind of busy right now making a version of the XI supercharger kit with a couple of the evo second gears sets I plan on getting pics when its finished both on the speed checker before and after pics. who in there right mind would pay 25 bucks if it can be done for the price of a S2 motor kit.

Thanks for the responses so far...

Last night my son and I decided to go ahead and take the remote apart, and it looks like the rear contacts may not have been making a good connection. I've raised them a bit but haven't put the remote back together yet (got kinda late).

Makes sense that it was a poor connection now that I see how the remotes are designed. As soon as we figure out how to put the remote back together I guess we'll find out!

First rule of tinkering - never take anything apart when you are too tired to pay attention to how it goes back together

Has anyone found a "cure" for this yet, I'm having the same problem with my GT-R. Thanks.

It's not a common problem that's fixable, it's just that sometimes you get a lemon. You can try asking your local radioshack if they have any xmods in back or any remotes or any returns in back that they'd like to sell.

If not, there's stores like www.xmodsinternational.com and atomicmods.com that sell the stock remotes.

My Evo has problems knowing that backwards isn't forwards as well sometimes.

Go Get New Remotes. Their not that expensive. Go to RS. Ask For The Manager.. Tell Him that you bought the xmod there and lost reciept. Say You need a new remote b/c it is defective. If the manager is nice he will PROBALLY do one of these things: 1)Give you a new remote... 2)Give you a new xmod ..

I switched my remote and it's better. Not perfect, but better.
