Project Quick and Dirty gymkhana (WRX HD)

I built this over the weekend for the XMF member build off. It was the only import model Hobby Lobby had, save the Integra, and I needed a basher. I tried to focus on detail with this build, as that would justify buying a model that was the exact same as the xmod variant. I will try to get better interior shots when I can clean the windows and get an overcast.

The wheelbase was inbetween the xmod evo long and the notch back. If you use long, the rear wheel will be against the front of the fender, the next notch it will be against the rear of the fender. I chose front to keep from having to cut a drive shaft. I need to space the rear wheels out a bit, and still have some more details to add. Comments and suggestions welcome.

that's a really awesome looking car

Thanks a lot. I tried to focus on detail in the motor bay, but all of the pics I could find were so cluttered with wire that I couldn't make heads or tails. Subaru guys, take it easy on me if I got one or two things wrong, especially with the piping for the front mount intercooler.

When my buddy and I get our track finished up, I'll try to make a Ken Block style video.... probably much less impressive nor epic.

Yeah, it's relocated from the top, it will have to do until I can Fab. one.... i had to have this project done by today, so I used a couple of shortcuts. I got a couple other little things for it....

Wow. That is one kick @$$ car! It looks great! Very good detail! And you did this over a weekend? Wow. That's more detail than I could probably ever due. Car looks great. Looking forward to a video!

Thanks. The trick is research, google images brings up a lot. Also thinking ahead and multi-tasking. When something in the body is drying I work on the motor, when that is drying I work on the wheels, or an accessory that isn't glued on. As long as you plan your course of action, you don't have the downtime that causes a project to take a long time.

We have to finish up a track, then I'll get a video. Does anyone know of any free video editing programs? Just something to chop it up and add music.

You could try a Trial/Demo version of Sony Vegas. I used that a while back and liked it. It only has a thirty-one day trial though, so download it when you need it and not a day sooner.

Project looks good. I'm no Subie-lover so I have no idea what the engine bay looks like, but you did a very nice job bringing it all together cleanly. Nice work, Surgeon.

Cheers,
Kyle.

I tried Vegas a long time ago, it was nothing like it's audio counterpart...but I could always give it a go again.

This is the kind of images I found of the FMIC set up:

I had to keep the piping closer to the motor to make the body removable. Same thing with the air intake. I put a custom intake manifold on it with the nitrous injector.

Thanks

Lies! :(
They don't have this at Hobby Lobby, I would've had a dozen by now, lol.

I'm very very very jealous!

surgeon 07-09-2009 05:10 PM

They had two when I went. The kit looks like this:

It was just under 20 bucks after tax. Call ahead, my local Hobby Lobby is really bad about restocking their models.... and the only imports they carry are this WRX and the integra you are doing.

winner 07-09-2009 06:19 PM

ours has a toyota camry also as a import...

360flipboi 08-06-2009 02:10 PM

Wow that looks really good! I like it! I'm gonna try to fit my integra car model on my xmod next lol.

Rovonic 08-07-2009 02:01 AM

Amazing car looks real only thing that sticks out is the screw in the rear bumper but awsome detail.

xmodzracer 08-07-2009 08:07 AM

I've used windows movie maker for all my vids. It's not the greatest for special effects but it's really simple to use.
