'09 hurst challenger

this car is being built for the XMF Team XI buildoff between the staff members.

i'm going to keep my pic posting to "selective" status as to not reveal too much but here's a first glance.;)
not sure if i want white or black yet.

chuck's hooking me up with a EFI Hemi so that's taken care of.(thanks man)
and there's been a good bit of work done to the chassis but those pics aren't going to be shown any time soon.
most of the work going into this particular car is going to be chassis, int and engine bay as opposed to my other cars where the body was the main point of interest.

thanks guys, i'll get you a shot of the mount 818.

update:
i cut and channeled the upper tray and dropped the ESC flush with the bottom of the car.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010010-2.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010009-3.jpg
the board and tray are completely covering any chance of getting a DS through, but it gives me a bit more leg room.....and i can always lay claim to the fact that the 1:1 is RWD....bonus realism.lol;)

after the caliber of the last few comps,i'm abandoning alot of function for details and realism.
what i'm going for here is a driveable 1:25 scale model.
one that looks just as pretty and detailed as the full on revell or die-cast sitting on a shelf but can also be pulled down and cruised around every now and then.
i've tried to stay away from builds like this to keep the Xmod feel to them since any kind of thrashing and bashing on this one will result in parts falling off.
it should be good for smooth surface fun though, alot of the add-ons are tucked out of the way or protected by something else.

the first thing i did was start in on a full exhaust.
i found two spare mufflers but couldnt find a single cat that was usable, let alone a matching pair....oh well...we don't comply with emmission standards on our 1:1's around here anyways...:rockon2:

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010009-4.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010010-3.jpg
i got the first pipe bent without a problem but my last piece of that styrene kept breaking at the bends so i grabbed the brass.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010011-4.jpg

this section will be mounted to the shell.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010006-4.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010005-3.jpg

once i got all the exhaust on i laid in some frame rails.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010013-2.jpg

i had to cut up a trans and make a bell housing because all of the bells i had were way too big.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010006-5.jpg

woohoo,we got brakes!!!
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010009-5.jpg

i also laid in a rear end.
it looks out of place from the bottom view but man....it looks killer from the rear.

cheers,

TripleXmodder(akaXXX) 10-14-2009 02:11 PM

Man this a high caliber build. If there's anyone who pull it off with extreme attention to detail and beauty it's you. Probably the most fasinating build I've had to enjoy. I can't wait to see this thing paint underneath and complete. Keep the photos and updates coming Bondo... I've added this to my thread subscriptions.

TheB1GDude 10-14-2009 02:12 PM

Wow 10 out of 10 for realism....

Great job as always!

kendallcschm 10-14-2009 03:08 PM

nice job so far.. lol. too bad you can buy a challenger now

imnotmikal 10-14-2009 03:46 PM

I was going to ask why not just use an xmod shell.
Then it hit me. Realism. I see you're taking alllll the details into account on this, and I'm sure it will look great.

And I personally like the black version better than the white.

bondo 10-14-2009 05:25 PM

thanks man, i've got more then shown finished but i like to keep my updates behind progress a bit should something happen down the road.
if something happens and i'm not able to make any progress then i have something to fall back on to keep the thread from dying.:) i have other reasons aswell but we'll stick to that one for now.

thanks for pointing that out.
i thought my reasons would have been obvious but i guess not.
not only is there more room for details but the windows are clear,(allowing for all sorts of possibilities)there's an interior, the body looks more realistic,it comes with decals so there's no need to try to save the ones on an Xmod,it's cheaper to buy a $18 kit then a $50 starter for a shell.......etc
there's all kinds of reasons for me chosing a kit over a stock shell.
i just wish i would have noticed that the kit didnt come with an engine.
i had two of em in my hand and chose the lesser expensive one.
now i know why it was cheaper....:dunce:

lol 10-14-2009 06:37 PM

realism is real.

Brass looks better than styrene, gives it the worn look. Replace the other side plz? :)

Sweed 10-14-2009 06:59 PM

Bondo never disappoints.

with a bit of paint, you won't notice the difference.;)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1277.jpg

i have a small update, not much but it will let you see the direction i'm heading in for the engine.

here's all the bits that zippo so kindly offered up as sacrifice to the detail demons......
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1311.jpg
that's one huge intake...
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1313.jpg
the kit didnt come with an engine so i had to do some cutting and pilfer some wheel wells from an old kit.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1314.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1315.jpg
i found the charger for an old hemi and ripped it apart to match the reference pic.kinda weird that the charger is the same size as the stock intake from the heads up.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1316.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1317.jpg
not sure if i'm going with this pulley setup,i think imma try to find a nice serpentine and see what i can do about keeping some of the acc's.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1318.jpg
with all of the **** i plan on stuffing in here,it wouldn't make much sense to run a tri pulley.the form wouldnt match the function.

none of the rest of this is set in stone,it was more of an excercise to see if my ideas for a scale TB and tube were plausible.
for the TB i used the riser and one of the carbs from the topend of the charger.
the tube is 5/32 aluminum tube.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1319.jpg
bent, polished and a piece of styrene tubing for the reducer.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1320.jpg
i had some bits of PE strip leftover from the grill on my firebird so i cut some "hose clamps" and hit it with some heat shrink.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1321.jpg
again,nothing is glued down.
this is a mock up only to see how it looks and if it even works.(the snout for the charger is in my bits box)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1323.jpg
with the pulleys and tidied bay.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1324.jpg

here's my reference shot.
http://www.musclecars.at/wp-content/...llenger_02.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3287/...6a8380.jpg?v=0

of course,i'm a good bit farther then this as far as progress goes but with all the "borrowing" of ideas lately,i think i'll keep the updates a step or two behind actual progress.

cheers doods...

kendallcschm 10-24-2009 11:21 PM

a blower on a new challenger like that... i don't think i have ever seen that

texan_idiot25 10-25-2009 03:45 AM

Hot **** it's about time someone did a detailed under carriage. Been always curious to see it, but never thought there would be clearance to do so.

if it's mopar then leave it to good ol' Mr. Norm.
i think dodge just ships him a car when the new ones roll out...:p
he's kinda like the caroll shelby of mopar.
here's the car that the top reference came from.

this is the car from the second reference pic(link)

there isn't enough clearance on stock wheels but the kit wheels have a good bit more size to em wich leaves me about 1.5mm clearance between the road and the cross member.
all in all though,i only lost about a half a mil of clearance over stock.
it doesn't mean that the crossmember wont get ripped off by a speedbump though.....
we'll see how much clearance is left after i add the oil pan and filter, but i have absolutely no plans to drive it and if i do it will be on the smoothest surface i can find.
it's only getting two AAA lith so the run times would be short anyways.
basically what i'm going for here is an X-MODel....pretty much all the tricks i would put into a 1:24/25 scale cased shelf king.
i remember quite vividly as a boy building models and wishing i could take em off the shelf and play with em......xmods made it happen.
i''ve tried to stay away from this kinda of stuff in my previous conversions simply for he sale factor because let's face it,nobody wants to buy a car that you can't play with without stuff falling off but i'm probably going to keep this one so imma go all out.
now my only problem is coming up with ways to create detail where there is none.
most kits have detail to spare but throw it on an X and it loses more then half of it.

thanks again guys;)

xmodkidd33 10-25-2009 09:32 PM

You know what this is?

Detail.

bondo 11-03-2009 07:17 PM

welp,a good bit's happened since my last update.
unfortunately,i'm only going to show some of it,.....hopefully it's enough to scratch your itch for awhile;)
please keep in mind that these are two copied and pasted quotes.

Quote:

the engine is starting to come together.
scrapped together hood latch..
it's the top of a hurst shifter and two pieces of styrene.
like i said, some stuff will be spot on and some "will work".
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1325.jpg
here's a small mockup of the main pieces.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1326.jpg
i had to get creative for the rest of this stuff.
first up is the washer fluid res. and dipstick.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1327.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1328.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1330.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1332.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1333.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1351.jpg
the res. is finished but drying.
now i just have to figure out how to get a decal for it.

next up is the battery and box.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1336.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1337.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1338.jpg
here's where i got a little sneaky.
there's no point in putting a perfectly good resin battery in a box if you can't see it right?
a little bit of slick thinking and some earth magnets......
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1340.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1342.jpg
....and we have a removable bat.box cover.(still drying)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1348.jpg

told ya the pumpkin looked good from the back...;)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1334.jpg
another small mockup.....
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1353.jpg

i finally got something figured out for the pulleys.
custom like a mofo...
driveshaft bushing,styrene and brass.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1356.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1357.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1358.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1359.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1360.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1361.jpg
i need to do a little more cutting and locate a small black rubberband and that will be done.
Quote:

i got the washer res. finished except for the decal.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1362.jpg

the battery box needs another coat of all colors, wires, bracket and outer terminal cover but i got it somewhat painted.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1363.jpg

i mocked everything up and realized that i need to move the fans forward to make a bit of room for the serpentine.
it also looks like i'm not going to be able to use the kit manifolds so i guess imma be making some headers.
those will raise the batt box up to where it needs to be.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...w/DSCN1365.jpg
my next task is to figure out something for the TB.
i don't like it........:(
just wait 'till you guys see the next update...;)
not to brag or anything but it's pretty **** cool.

cheers,

GearHeadV8 11-03-2009 07:32 PM
