Proton Mudder

Here is my start of my Lithium Mudder/Crawler.

The reason I said Proton, was cause some electrical term needed to be involved, as it is lithium.

I'm currently working on a wide axle all around, with super swampers.

I have a 180 Size motor, that is beast for crawling, and speed.

I'm painting a Nissan Titan body white to show mud in contrast.

So Far:

I cut the cradle to fit the motor, and am working on the wide axles. The lith kit is made, and I need to water proof.

the white stuff is super glue on my hands, get your mind out of the gutter!

Got any idea of tire choice ? Your wide axles look amazing, very cleanly made.

Hope this turns out as good as your other projects ! Good luck !

Thanks :bigwink: I used mini-clamps for the wide axles, and I have M/T tires. They are hard, but I'm boiling them to make them soft, but mudding, and dirt crawling doesn't usually need super soft tires so I'm in the clear.

What kinda motor is that and how does it perform, etc?

merc3des 04-20-2009 03:02 PM

180 Heli Motor.

I finished the wide axles and will update soon. I'm running to the post office.

nope, he's running a 550.
he says 2 time what size the motor is( 180 )

Skv012a 04-20-2009 05:51 PM

But how does that thing compare? What power does it draw, etc?

amorton94 04-20-2009 07:01 PM

Are you going to upgrade to any better electronics? I also am going to make a mudder, but I going to wait til RC4WD ( I love those guys!...no homo) comes out with their micro axles. That way it can be super scale and perform 10x better than any xmod.

merc3des 04-20-2009 07:48 PM

Axle upgrade is done, now for 4wd.
I also resoldered the lithium pack and am relocating it.

I don't know the power draw, but its powerful... you'll see.

To Do:
Titan Body
4wd
Relocate liths

Good start merc3des!

IMO, ditch those tires, they're not soft enough.

Do you have bearings installed?

I have a RS battery kit right next to me, and I'm boiling the tires to make them soft as I'm broke

So for now this is where I stand.

Thanks for the great feedback

I think thaat this is going to be and very powerful truck man
and it is looking good keep it up

merc3des 04-20-2009 09:40 PM

Okay, small update, I am charging the lith batteries now, and getting ready to install 4WD. If I can, its muddy outside :D I'll get a video of it bustin' sh*t up tomorrow. Just have to get this titan body mounted with no clips....

With those tires and lithium, the motor is going to get hot real fast. The tires really suck at performance anyway. On my wood floor it would just spin out, so I don't see how this will handle well in the mud. (I tried it in snow, same problem. The tires gave me no grip so the truck would just get stuck in the snow)

In other words, try to get a set of different tires. Otherwise, nice build.

c1v1c 04-20-2009 10:32 PM

If he's going mudding, the tires wouldn't matter much since you're technically in the mud and you only need wheel spin but for a crawler, you'll need some softer compound tires.

So the setup he has right now is actually pretty good to go mudding! Just don't forget to seal properly!

Hence me boiling them. It's like a mouthguard, it gets soft.

The reasons for lith is weight, power to get through mud, and COG.

Thanks for heads up on tires, and for the positive feedback :)

And civic, to seal I'm using liquid electrical tape :D

c1v1c 04-20-2009 11:12 PM

Might as well be generous and Saran-wrap the whole battery/ep part.

Btw, after you boiled your tires, sure it'll get soft, but not for long!:nodno:

XMDrifter 04-21-2009 12:09 AM

you need to chemically soften them...hows WD40 sound?

mustanglover 04-21-2009 02:22 AM

hope the 180 kicks *** man! lmk if you want feedback.
