07 Silverado Work Truck...NO MORE

Hmm...well, I used to have a thread about my 07 SWB/Reg Cab Silverado WT on here somewheres. Anyways, it's got a 4.8L V8 with 295hp/305tq...it's the smallest V8 that Chevy puts in their 1/2 tons, but it's only 20hp shy of the next biggest V8, and 37hp of the 6.0L V8. I had originally wanted the 6.0, but it's not available in a SWB/Reg cab, the biggest engine available is a 5.3L, but it's hard to come by a truck like mine with one and it's the same LS1 block, my engine is just destroked to 4.8.
Anyways, to compensate for not having the 6.0 i wanted, i started doing little things to it...this weekend i got true dual flowmaster 40 series 2chamber mufflers installed to free up my exhaust, I've got a hypertech power III programmer, and I ordered a Volant cold air intake (which is the best intake made for my truck)
To get away from the "work truck" look, i ordered some new bumper end caps with built in TYC fog lights, they're going to be painted to match the color of the truck and give it a little more sporty look. I'll have progress pics/vids up very soon. I'm just tired of the daily drive being so boring, yanno?

sounds awesome man, let me know how that hypertech pp III works out, i've been wanting to get one for my Av. as for the intake, i found one on ebay that is made of the exact same parts as a AEM Brute Force without the stickers and i got it got under $40

are you gonna have the grille shell painted as well?

texan_idiot25 06-13-2009 01:53 AM

True duals was my idea.

It was a good idea too.

Yay for dual exhaust.

suicide_star 06-13-2009 07:40 AM

originally, i had wanted to paint the grille shell to match the truck, but it's going to look good flat black...i think it will anyways. that volant intake ran me $300 and it took me almost 2 hours to find one at that price lol. i emailed them trying to figure out which ram air scoop i need. i was at the muffler shop and called up Tex and asked his opinion on the exhaust, $240 for a single in, dual out and $340 for true duals...well...im glad we went with his idea. the next mods are going to be headers, 3.73 gears (currently 3.23) and an under drive pulley

My dad has a custom '02 Silverado crew cab 2500 HD. Dual pipes (not true duals, tiny mufflers), 6" lift, fender flares, sun visor, chrome bowtie, backup camera, rhino bed liner, flipscreen DVD/NAV, 2nd DVD player, headrest screens with headphones, game system hookup, real wood paneling on the interior, and I'm pretty sure there are other things. If you want a pic I can get you one.

true duals are pretty expensive, and back when we built the truck we had some spare change. If you don't have that much expendable wealth I reccomend you do simple, cheap, touch-ups. y'know, spray paint original parts, ebay parts, Wal-Mart rims, jsut simple things.

He already got true duals, for much cheaper than most bolt-on kits.

And nothing shiny until it goes fast on the track. Hence the headers and 3.73 rear gears.

O_o
Have you seen my Blazer? Spray paint? Wal Mart rims? pshhht.

haha, i'm just kidding buddy. i can care less what the interior looks like, the outside, i just want to drop the back end a couple of inches to level it out; but, i can't do anything to make it look pretty til i break into low 15's or better at the track...ultimately, i'd like to haul my 12 second blazer with my 14 second truck to the track...rawr.

anyways, any of you guys that know about under drive pulleys, should i fork out $200 for one or not? a guy over on the silverado forums seems to think that it's a bad idea...as well as throttle body spacers. if i save $300 by not getting the spacer and the pulley, that can go towards new cams.

texan_idiot25 06-13-2009 06:19 PM

I say no to the spacer too. The pully swap will slow all the accessories down some. It helps with a serp setup like you have. Less parasitic drag. Though for prices, I don't know...

Mainly because the only thing my belts rotate on the CST10 is the alternator, and a power steering pump...

Ode to the simplistic SBC.

A 3/5 drop would do the truck justice.

the good thing about this body style is that it's already terribly clean and simplistic...i just want to keep it that way

texan_idiot25 06-14-2009 11:28 PM

I approve, and with 20s you can still have enough side wall to have good off the line traction and ride comfort.

noturday 06-15-2009 12:13 AM

nice wheel choice, they look good. as for tires, i definitely suggest going with General Grabber UPH tires, i'm running them on my truck (285/50/20's) and love them, they grip the road amazingly no matter if the road is wet or dry. they're a little pricey, but well worth it IMO

texan_idiot25 06-15-2009 12:15 AM

That's why noturday can't do burnouts any more. ;)

suicide_star 06-15-2009 12:21 AM

haha...
i wanted something that looked sort of like a torq thrust, but would work a little better with the truck's bodystyle...now i just need to talk the hen into letting me get em.

xmodkidd33 06-15-2009 12:32 AM

sounds great. and those rims will be sweet. on a side note. you sound like framing hanleys singer when hes talking.
