Evo Viii Project

I got an Evo Viii a few weeks ago and ive decided to do another project. I dont have my camera because i couldn't find it when i left florida over the summer so i wont have any pics ntil either this weekend or the next.

Tday i painted the headlights and taillights Flat Black and made the wheel wells bigger to fit my thicker tires and new suspension set-up(illhave more details when i get the camera, but i used the stock truck rear arms and custom extension on the upper shock mount; the tires extend about 1 or 2 millimeters from car)

I am sanding some tonight but i wont do much, then im gonna prime it tomorrow with a coat. Im thinking about painting it Red.

For the body im going to use the stock spoiler but other than that im not sure since i havent seen the full body kit.

If any1 has ideas im open to all of them

Okay, today I hand painted 2 or 3 coats of flat white paint as a base. Then i painted a couple coats of Testors Gloss Red, also by hand. for once my handpainting came out fairly well. I painted the rims flat black.

I didn't use any tape so a couple of my windows look pretty bad. CAN i fix this by painting them gloss black or is there a better way??

you can. but it won't look to great. the best way, is to mask before painting...

but it's a little too late for that :p so gloss black will have to do.

It shouldnt be too bad, i only got a little red around the edges and some white so it should just be as easy a a little touch up

I also got some on the screen-like pieces in the bumper and hood; should i cut them out or paint them flat black?

musclecars4life 11-01-2006 09:23 PM

have you cosidered hinging? i got a friend that wanted is doors and hood hinged, the Evo viii looks great with suicide doors and hood. i like your paint scheme. you should go flat black for the screen like pieces.

sounds cool

Okay, im almost done. Hopfully ill have pictures tomorrow night or saturday.
I painted the windows and they came out quite well, there are a few places i have to go over still.
I painted the fins directly above the windows flat black and the front bumper has some well place flat black also. I think i may have gona a little overboard with it but it still looks good.
The sceen like places are flat black.

By next week i should have an Atomic AWD Ball bearing motor all wired and ready to go.
DOES Radioshack sell motor capacitators?

civic_guy 11-02-2006 10:02 PM

Sounds like a nice project. I don't think Radioshack has motor capacitors...if they do I've never seen them. You can get them off ebay, Xmods International is where I got mine.

Numbchux 11-03-2006 01:35 AM

RS has caps, but not specific for xmods.

sweetvette 11-16-2006 10:04 PM

all those ebay capacitors are schemes. they arent specificaly engineered for xmods or anything. all capacitors are the same except for the amount of electricity they can store.

civic_guy 11-16-2006 11:03 PM

I got mine from Xmods International...and it's awesome, and what's a scheme?? you mean scam?? and if it were a scam....they wouldn't affect performance.

WRX Ryder 11-17-2006 01:41 AM

sounds cool. but they do have capacitators on www.undergroundxmods.com for less than $3

we'll do the enforcing thank you. notice his 2 posts were 2 days apart....that's not a double post, that's bump. and perfectly acceptable.

sweetvette 11-18-2006 12:58 AM

ya i meant scham or w/e :p :p
i used a random capacitor of an old circuit board of sorts and it does everything that all those sellers say they can do for $3+ for free.
i just had to rant on that and i'm very sorry for getting off topic

any way.. back to the evo 8, i think that red might look cool, which body lit did you use?

ScottA32754 11-24-2006 12:14 PM

The tires came off of a diecast mercedes model i found packed away in florida over the summer, i chose to use them because they gave me the extra clearence i want to drive on packed dirt... speaking of rally, the thread i just read said something about makin inner wheel wells which i will most likely attempt within the next few weeks. since the pics, i found that i needed to make the front wheel wells slightly bigger so i can turn completely.

Besides that, i have driven it and the tires dont have quite the traction i was looking for and the back end doesnt like to stay in line with the front(thats with the stock motor, i still havent put in my Atomic AWD Ball Bearing stock motor) so im hoping that that will change when i get the AWD kit.

The car will be mainly used for drifting on hardwood or cement, or just driving on dirt/pavement... so im gonna have to find an 'all-terrain' setup

musclecars4life 11-24-2006 09:41 PM

nice car dude ive been waiting for pics. nice job
