Subaru. All we'll drive.

Well, my wife will be driving quite shortly and we decided that a second vehicle was in order. We bought our Legacy with her in mind, so the second vehicle was going to be mine. Of course, it also had to be a Subaru. Afterall, it's all we'll drive. I began shopping and had a fleeting crush on a 1994 JDM WRX STi, but we decided on something a little more practical and finally decided on a 2002 WRX wagon. We picked it up last week and headed out on vacation, putting just over 2000 km on her in the first week, including just about 100km of gravel/single track and lots of sporty roads in BC. So far she's been a real champ and we are completely satisfied with our new purchase. We got back form vacation last night and I finally had some time to get her all cleaned up today.

Modifications as purchased:

Greddy header
Grimspeed up pipe
Brembo rotors and pads

Pics...

Proud new owners.

The worst damage... also, as I cleaned it up, lots of rock chips. LOTS.  A repaint will be in order one day.

She's 22, just a little late in getting her license. It's not always necessary in a big city with transit services, but I been pushing it cause she hates taking the bus...

Gonna start with a tune. There's a guy in Calgary who has the Crawford performance tuning software. He does it for a price I cannot speak of and I get some pretty reasonable gains. Wheels aren't in the budget for quite a while... it will likely see some intake and more exhaust work before I work on suspension and wheels. Even at that, I think I'll just get some lowering STi or SPT springs. I'm not gonna race it (much), maybe the odd drag strip night here or there, or the odd auto-x just for fun. And besides... the stock rims really add to the already high "sleeper" effect of the wagon :p

Thanks!

I've experienced a few little moments, but nothing I (or more likely the AWD) couldn't handle. Definitely a good time!

Odd. I never knew that.
If you wanna get technical, Mazda has had teh RX line since the 70's, which is the first true 'Rex", Honda has had the CRX line since 83', and the idea that the WRX is a 'Rex" is a new thing, and WRX's have only been around since 92'...

But hey, Subaru has the only actual 'rex' as a car. Looks pretty **** mean..

Well if we are going to get technical, then this is my second "rex". And it's waaaaaaay more fun than the first (although sometimes I do miss my old little Honda). But then I hit 3000 RPM, mash my foot down and I forget about that old car all together. Man I love turbo's!

Speaking of which... I have a bunch of turbo stuff for the D16A6 that I never used... if ya know what I mean.

Ah I love your Subi! I have one myself... a 2001 Legacy GT. Fun little car I have to say! Just having the dumb coolant/head gasket problem I think. Oh yeah and the clutch is starting to get iffy. But all in good time!

Thanks! Appreciate the compliments!

We've also got a 2000 Legacy GT sedan (hers), and seems to be having that dumb coolant problem as well. I've replaced the thermostat and coolant fluids but the computer continues to give me the same stupid error message (can't remember the exact message now). You have any more info on this? The issue seems to be fairly common I think. Is your Legacy a sedan or wagon?

lilskipro587 08-05-2009 11:50 PM

It's a Legacy sedan. 2.5i(obviously) So basically now my coolant has on it own gone above the full line by a solid 4 inches at least. It must be what I put in it when it was below full... Not sure where it went... This is all I know right now. I have an appointment at the local Subaru dealer on Monday. They will probably just end up adding a conditioner and putting a warranty on it. So I would recommend that. I heard this issue was recalled.. PM me if you dont want to spam your thread.
