Mercedes Track Car v2

Well okay this project has had 3 different threads now due to different directions, bodies, etc. I know its annoying :eyecraz: BUT this is the final body, and some of you may recall it from my first track car

Some of you may remember the wheelbase was always too long, I'm kinda going in the middle with this. I got the wheelbase as short as it can go, and that means I'm going to had the mod the wheel wells. So far I got the wheelbase scale to about 1/26th scale, which is odd in itself. But thats as short as I can go. Getting this wheelbase to this short required a lot of ghetto modding.

The suspension is working fine, the wheelbase is even, ride height is same on front 2 and back 2, just have to mod the body.

I regret selling the first track car so much.

It is a Mini-Z, Micro-T, Generation 1 Mix.

Here is the specs:
Generation 1 Carbon Fiber chassis, that I made myself
Micro-T Board
PN racing Mini-z Rear Pod
2S Lithium Ion Square Kit (Made myself)
Carbon Fiber upper deck
Ceramic Bearings
Disk Damper system (mounted myself)
Tires
New painted rims
Upgraded differential

The wheelbase used to be 115mm, which is huge.

Before Wheelbase shortening:

After wheelbase shortening:

Here is some chassis pics, and an idea of how much modding I have to do to the body.

You can really see the gap here (the front of the chassis is so narrow and forward):

im posting this cause merc3des came to my house and is holding a knief to me making me post on his thread

it looks really good, the carbon work is amazing! we need a vid to see how it runs! what the handling like?

merc3des 01-11-2010 05:03 PM

I have to locate the steering video I have, haven't got it in running shape yet. Last thing I wanna do is run it in to a track wall and break a suspension pipe thing. I'll look for a video, may take a while though, hold tight.

Thanks for the CF comment, now i don't have to stab you :)

Found it, steering is pretty precision eh.

Going to pick up some thin styrene, and if anyone has Tamiya putty lemme know cause thats what i need. I need to move the wheel wells about 2-3mm.

trans_am_lover_79 01-12-2010 08:45 PM

Are you going to be chopping the body down on the front end? Looks good so far.

merc3des 01-12-2010 10:54 PM

I plan on hacking off or modding the front body kit wheel well. Hopefully I dont have to cut the body too much as the decals are sweet.

If anyone has thin styrene pleaseee PM me.

Edit: Who says I paint the body, or maybe STL will do it for me :)

I need some color scheme ideas.

XMDrifter 01-12-2010 11:48 PM

asymmetric stripe pattern with inset Merc3des logo.

Kaze 01-13-2010 01:35 PM

I'd hire STL, just remember its winter though

merc3des 01-13-2010 10:13 PM

STL is going to paint for me :) Thanks man, we're gunna keep the color scheme secret so make some guesses if you please.

 I didn't CNC it, I'm not that good lol. I just drew up the design, guy send me a wax model, we worked the specs out.

Going to try and get a hold of STL, he hasnt been on AIM

The theme is going to match the chassis though.

Hey there :king:

maxinflixion 02-22-2010 07:48 PM

Carbon fiber came out great on this!!

merc3des 11-11-2010 02:48 PM

Well I've been revamping the suspension plate, and I just need to run styrene tubes down from it, and then it's secure. I put in the 2 arms to keep it from shifting as it did when it was running. I also installed a Mini-Z board.

Working on mounting the Enzo body, yes another body switch, I need a good paint job on it :P I'll post some pics, its pretty tricky with the whole chassis setup.

merc3des 12-05-2012 12:10 AM

tricks up my sleeve coming for this, trying to make sure this gets finished a monster ... dont sleep on this one

merc3des 12-09-2012 01:14 AM

Here's an update. Mounting a top plate for more suspension consistency and more rigid performance. New electronics and everything going in it too.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...95/image1.jpeg

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...695/image.jpeg

mounted up:

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...5/photo3-1.jpg

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/i...695/photo6.jpg

also sanded off all of the lil extra bits used to mount the rest of the xmods set-up

working on remounting the underside of the suspension. Either using styrene tubing or something aluminum

as far as future plans, im thinking full hobby grade and as for a body itll be sexy trust me

feedback appreciated thanks guys

AND IF ANYONE HAS A GEN 1 BOARD WITH A FUNCTIONING SERVO PM ME ASAP
