RE Amemiya RX-7 Model Build (Maybe 56k kill)

My mom bought me this model:

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/5980/img3256pg3.jpg
So I build it.
And if anyone asks, I'm not mounting this onto a Xmods. It's too pretty.

Obviously this is a painting that was put onto the box, so it won't look as good as it seems on the box.

Most of it lays in pieces.

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1268/img3250iy7.jpg

Some of it is painted.

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/2307/img3245pp8.jpg
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9367/img3249ks2.jpg

The only thing assembled is the c0ckpit.

http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/5108/img3241pu1.jpg
http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/7476/img3243sd8.jpg

The body.

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/6186/img3251ua8.jpg
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/5886/img3252pp0.jpg

The rest is in a bag waiting.

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9144/img3254ch3.jpg

I hope to get the body painted today or soon at least, before school starts preferably.

I'm going to go for the Initial D RE Amemiya RX-7 look
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...7_InitialD.jpg
It's only the back though :( No pics of the front.

123Vette 08-12-2008 02:00 PM

o your not making this into an xmod? i though you were haha o well looks really cool

BulletsRain 08-12-2008 02:13 PM

It would be sweet as an Xmod, but I think it will be awesome anyways. Looks good so far. Can't wait to see it finished. :)

XMDrifter 08-12-2008 02:17 PM

i think you need to sand the body and paint it because i can see molding seams

65mustangrock 08-12-2008 02:21 PM

xmods or not that thing is is awsome!! btw nice find

tayyab 08-12-2008 02:25 PM

here i got you a picture of the front:

http://gallery.tsukaeru.jp/sa/s-22-147-1.jpg

anyway, nice to see that someone is building the actual kit instead of ditching everything but the interior and the body, lol.

looks good, hope to see it finished soon. good luck!

later T.I.M

No... And even if I did, the chasis would need to be widened and legenthed. Not worth the time.

I was working on the body a few nights ago. I think i got rid of all the molding seams and the ones that are left over are going to be covered by random body pieces. I'm going to either paint the body today or sometime this weekend. School starts tomorrow so I'm waiting for the right time to do it.

Wrong version of the car :uhoh: ...

But it doesn't really matter. I've got Initial D 4th Stage on DVD where I can see it.

*lil update*

Wheels (only fronts) on.

Body mock up.
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2630/img3265rq1.jpg

*Update*

I started to paint the body. I just hope there's enough paint. I ran out while painting my Barricade... Stupid fruit flys or gnats keep landing on the body trying to get high of the fumes and there's a bit of bubbles comming up. So much for high quality Tamiya... must be my painting.

No pics because... I'm too lazy. And it's not done yet.

taiwanesekid05 08-14-2008 07:07 PM

Whee a double post...

The paint:
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/3716/img3266lo1.jpg

Simple yellow.

The body as it sits now. It's got one layer of paint now. The paint is running out so I'm waiting for a good time to paint. Well. There are a few uh-ohs (bubbles/ orange peel) otherwise a bit of sanding will do it.
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/6683/img3267fs1.jpg
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/8646/img3269kc8.jpg

Intercooler :D
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/4412/img3268lo8.jpg

HUMMER H4 08-14-2008 07:26 PM

I mean i have a mazda RX-7 like urs but mines a GT-C,google it.

taiwanesekid05 08-14-2008 07:29 PM

Ahh.... I see.

65mustangrock 08-14-2008 07:30 PM

this is really frickin' noobish , but why did you paint a yellow car yellow?

taiwanesekid05 08-14-2008 07:32 PM

Because that's what the model instructed. And I was going for the Initial D RE Amemiya RX-7 look.

65mustangrock 08-14-2008 08:01 PM

ok. it just didnt make sence to me.

taiwanesekid05 07-04-2009 09:25 PM

Because the weather's nice again, started to paint more of the body and spice up the interior.

http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4537/img7639x.jpg

Rear lights painted:

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1381/img7640.jpg

Interior shots:

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5071/img7637z.jpg

Note: The rear right seat is a little messed up because the flat black underneath started to crack and peel.

http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/307/img7638.jpg

Now all that's left for the body is a few more mist paints then its on to final assembly ;)

taiwanesekid05 07-07-2009 09:53 PM

Thanks all n_n

Well, I got a little too excited with the paint, and it ran and bubbled a littl ;(

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/2200/img7652s.jpg

Good news is that the wing is finished with its paint :D

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/872/img7653.jpg

greenday 07-08-2009 09:07 AM

Runs and bubbles happen to the best of us. Nothing a little 600+ wet-or-dry won't cure. Wing looks nice. I said it once and I will say it again, this is going to be one cool model. It's Aoshima, so I am assuming this doesn't have an engine bay?

That would be correct senor ;)

Right now, I'm trying to use 600 grit sandpaper to get rid of them, but the paint hasn't dried well enough for me to sand it out >.<

greenday 07-08-2009 05:29 PM

Thats one of the worst times lol...you can't do anything but wait or else you'll really botch your paint. I found that out the hard way.

taiwanesekid05 08-10-2010 12:48 AM

Its, allivveeeeee. After an entire year. Really been that long o.O

Well, I still tried to fix the paint problems. Then I messed up. Bad. Lots of bubbles.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1971.jpg

So, I'm starting from square one again. So right now I'm in the process of sanding/ paint thinnering all the paint away. Then I'm going to sand it a little, put down some primer, then hopefully put down a good coat of yellow paint.

Le process:

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1973.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1974.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1977.jpg

Richy2316 08-10-2010 12:53 AM

looks nice i would paint it red if it was mine

taiwanesekid05 08-13-2010 01:14 AM

Well, still continued to work on getting rid of the paint.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1987.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1989.jpg

Got the side bits loose so I could remove more paint.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1990.jpg

But when I tried getting the front bit off, I snapped the nubs that it was attached to :'(

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1993.jpg

There were still little bits of paint left in the cracks which were annoying to get to X(

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1992.jpg

Fast forward a day~~~

and I got all (well, at least most of it) removed and glued it back together ;)

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1995.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_1996.jpg

One of these days when I have time I'll prime it then paint it yellow if I have enough paint left.

taiwanesekid05 11-17-2010 03:02 AM

Spray painted...

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_2651.jpg

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_2652.jpg

It's got a bit of a rough spot near the front, so I just need to sand it down and give it one final coat.

http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...5/IMG_2654.jpg

FinalGear 12-01-2010 09:57 PM
