just a suggestion for the forum

as some of you may know everyday this forum get threads started with simple questions like "how do i take the pinion off my motor" or "will my skyline body fit on my evoution chassis" and threads like this are found all over the forum, but what if we had one thread where everyone could ask questions, and someone respond on that thread?

just my 2 cents..

Close to no one would see and use that thread. I made a searching tutorial awhile back and no noobs used it... Probably one or two max.

taiwanesekid05 09-20-2009 01:19 AM

I agree with dontspamme. Realistically speaking, barely any of the noobs will see the thread and there will be something like this that will go down:

Noob: hei guyz, how do you put a mini zee rim on a xmod rim

Seasoned Member: Go use the search function.

Noob: i don have tyme and i have to do it fast.

Seasoned Member: I searched for it and found it in less than 1 minute. [insert link here]

Noob: o ok. thnx.

It would turn into quite the cluster.

There might be a solution, I think recently, anyone who registered to XMS needed an approval from the staff and until then, they could only see the beginner section. (i'm not sure about this one tho)

So what we could do is someway sticky that thread in the beginner section or like make it so that they can only see that thread.

GearHeadV8 09-20-2009 09:20 AM

it would have to be moderated and watched carefully cause a flame war could easily start if a noob wants to be a smart arse or just not listen

winner 09-20-2009 09:48 AM

yea, you guys are right, this thread can be closed

GearHeadV8 09-20-2009 10:25 AM

no no no i mean i like the idea alot but it would have to be guarded carefully

You can't fix stupid.

When you (I am speaking to everyone, not just the OP ;)) joined this forum did you know everything about the Xmod RCs? How they work; what an FET is; where the steering servo is; how many winds are on the armature in a Stage II motor; what aftermarket companies are around; where to find hard to find parts?

No. And if you think you did, you are flat out lying or joined a different board before this one and asked all of your questions over there.

It takes questions to gain knowledge. Some of us may not have had to ask many questions because we either took the time to find them a few posts, threads or pages back, or because at that time they were a hot topic that everyone was talking about. I know when I joined here the hottest topic around was crawling and how to convert your Xmod Truck to a crawler. Now you see very little threads on how to do that, and many of them that you do find are buried somewhere in the tutorials/FAQ sections of the Xmods sections. It wouldn't surprise me if some newly joined member pops up a thread asking how to do it; you just do not see crawling threads like you used too.

In response to the OP I say no. This proposed thread, as a couple have already mentioned, will just get cluttered. Another thing I see is when you, a new member, just joined and the thread is already on page twenty-six, who is going to want to go back and read all of those other posts just to find the answer to: "how do I convert MiniZ rims to Xmod rims?" And if they are lazy and don't find the answer and ask it again, how long is it going to take before some seasoned member responds with: "it was already answered! Find it yourself! Search this thread!"

To me, this is what the beginner's section of any forum is for. A new member should be able to post there asking questions about his or her Xmods, this website or anything else that they may need help with pertaining to the Xmod/MiniZ hobby without the threat of being flamed by seasoned members (which, more often that not, happens anyway and we get a huge fight to clean up over using the search feature...).

Cheers,
Kyle.

yea, i thought it would be more of a source, more like a thread of infinite knowlege. where if you had a question you could look through it and see if it had already been asked.

but you guys are right, its not a very good idea and like many things will end in a flame war

for the topic at hand...
there's no need for a single thread like this when there's a whole section dedicated for it.
Xmods FAQ
for the uninformed, the acronym F.A.Q stands for "frequently asked questions" wich is what this "uber thread" would be right?
if people would simply learn how to effectively use a forum then **** near anything they could ever want to know(basics) is in there already.

LOL at the avatar, but on a serious note i fall into the category of the lazy noob that ask the questions that could be answered with some research, but i ask the seasoned members because most of them are nice and are willing to help with either a simple answer or a link leading me to a simple answer.
P.S. I like to be spoon fed  :) .
