RSX Project
Hi all,
So I haven't done a whole lot of XMOD stuff recently because I've been more focused on my larger scale 1:18 ProPulse's and 1:10 Tamiya TT-01 but I didn't want everyone to think that I had lost my love for the hobby so I wanted to share a project with you that I started back in September 2009 and am currently a little stuck on :) Maybe I can get some input of where to go next... OK so this car is actually for a staff build off going on over at XMF, we didn't set a time limit on the competition so everyone is working at their own pace. My project has been dubbed Team X.I. Build Off Project: Muscle Milk :) It's a model conversion that uses an 04 Acura RSX kit: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...frsx/model.jpg The model has been built and sitting out in the sun for many years, I left it stock white with nothing but a few decals: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00060.jpg What can I say... I was lazy back then and thought white was the perfect color choice :) The biggest problem with it is that it has been melted and cooled numerous times by the sun, so the frame doesn't sit even... grr!! I did what I got to save the decal as it has a really nice carbon fiber hood and side skirt stickers, I tape of what I wanted: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00061.jpg I also wanted to make this more detailed than my usual builds so start to do some chassis and body work: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00056.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00055.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00054.jpg Yes that's right I added an STI spoiler, which in my opinion makes it look more like a Celica.... Then I hit it with some paint: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00101.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00102.jpg Also did some chassis work: http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00070.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/IMG00070.jpg Now it's been sitting since November, mainly because of the snow and the fact that I don't have anywhere to finish painting, the base color is done, it just needs clear coat applying as so far all I've put clear on is the hood. Here are a few more random chassis and body shots, I've put different rims on it and started to do some of the detailing work.... http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3884.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3885.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3886.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3887.jpg Chassis still needs work as I didn't so good at blacking it out. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3888.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3889.jpg Body is getting there, stills needs a fine wet sand in one or two places but is pretty much ready for clear coating. http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3894.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3896.jpg Body on chassis sits really nicely, need to install the spoiler.... I am a little disappointed with the hood, my masking was a little off so you can still see some white areas, on the CF decal on the front bumper the paint ran, not sure what I'll be able to do to save that as I don't want to ruin the decal. The motor is a stage 2 in a BB can with neo mags, it will be wired directly to the board. I have tons of lights ready to be installed: * Underglow * Headlights, brake lights, fog lights * Interior lights * Sub Lights (Click Me) But where I am stuck in the interior... it is driving me crazy, I now know why I never bothered to do an interior before because it's a **** nightmare.... I have the dash and steering wheel cut and installed, as you can see I've put a piece of flat plastic in so I can put my seats and center column in, I have parts for the engine bay, the rear parcel shelf and of course my sub-box.... I was hoping to put the door cards in but there doesn't seen to be enough clearance from the chassis. So comments and questions are more than welcome, as are possible suggestions for the interior. Enjoy!! |
Looks great so far, B1G! How much does gearhead charge for his lights? They look good! Interesting idea putting it in the sub, will keep this thread on my watchlist ;)

Wow, Ive got this same body sitting on my work-table right now... I went with the more "OEM" look and a wing delete, painted a simple royal blue with black accents. Im still working on the chassis, its literally going to be one of a kind.
Annnnnnyway, this is an interesting build. I love the detail you are putting into it. Although, something about that front end looks off to me... |
Lol you aren't the first person to say they also have this model :)
What looks off about the front end? Is it to low? If its sitting at an angle its because I didn't screw it in place.... If it looks bent well that's because of the whole melting problem.... The bumper and the front end is kind of warped.... Needed a bit of putty to get it to stay in place :) |
B1G, just a suggestion, I would suggest removing those flame decals, imo it would look much better without them
|
Suggestion noted, I was playing around with different decals and left them on, they will be removed before I spray the cleat coat.

Nice project so far. What kind of wheels are you using (the second version)? Are they out of the model kit? |

nice work on it so far, I don't think that wing does justice though...it just doesn't fit with the body lines of the car compared to the real Type-R wing.
http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w...type-r_s06.jpg Even though the picture is the '05 model lol Maybe you could cut the bottom part off the subie wing. The lancer evo 8 wing might work too, but that might be too small. Good luck on finishing this up! I can't wait to see it done finally lol |
As per a recent suggestion I added a set of white Mini-Z rims (courtesy of Cryo) the rears are deep-dish, the fronts are regular....
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3939.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3940.jpg Photos are a little over-exposed but hopefully you can see whats what... Thoughts?? |
looking good the mini-z rims go better with it although the stock rsx were good and im likin the spoiler good idead : )
|
Another shot of the rims, this time darker so you can make out the contrast better.... check out the width of those rears.....
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3949.jpg Also I went though my spoiler box and dug out a Mustang one... ignoring the green tape what do you think?? http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3956.jpg Personally its a little to small for the scale of the car. |
Here are a few mock ups of what the Supra duck tail spoiler might look like...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3972.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3973.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3974.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3975.jpg http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...x/DSCF3976.jpg Thoughts?? |
it kinda reminds me of the seirra cosworth rear spoiler only a little lower other than that it looks good
|
Personally I think it looks too...fat? thick? For the body. I would go with something more sporty like this one.

I think I will just be sticking with my STI spoiler. |
I like the sti spoiler, I really like the car and can't wait for more updates!
|
I personally like the Supra spoiler. It sits low and looks to go with the body lines. I think it gives the car a more cleaner look than other spoilers. :)
|
I will see if I can paint the spoiler black over the weekend.... that might make things a little clearer :)
