Project: Mini clod 4x4x4
I recently got this truck body in with a deal, and was going to make a mudder truck with an evo truck chassis.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02208.jpg But after this mockup,my mind was made up! http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02211.jpg The body came without a grill or tailgate,so i decided to have a go at making them.I made a start on the grill,it still needs some tidying, before i build it up to form the grill and light surrounds. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02217.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02216.jpg It fits pretty well too. :) http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02212.jpg |
i finished the surround on the grill. I will put the centre piece and the emblem on tomorrow.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02221.jpg added the centre part and the emblem to the grill.I will fill some small gaps tonight then sand and shape some more. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02230.jpg i have made the bumpers too, needs filling and more sanding but the basic shape is there. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02250.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02247.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02249.jpg The bumpers were a little too large for the truck,so i reduced them a bit. still think the front needs to lose another mm.The more re-filling, re-shaping and re-sanding :duh: http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02260.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02262.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02263.jpg The front bumper was about 1.5mm taller than the rear one,tho not any more :) http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02266.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02267.jpg And that's pretty much where i am atm,i'm waiting for another truck front end to arrive to complete this. It will be using a micro esc,and hobby servo's for steering too. |
i like the body it looks nice in blue and gl w/ the project :)
|
What about instead of making the front and rear narrower, making wide fenders to match em?
|
I narrowed the height of them, not the width. :)
|
Small update,i have the wheels converted now :) I took the wheel centres on the monster wheels out to 6.5mm too,i can now fit the atomic socket in there. :)
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02312.jpg And have two front ends with lift kits fitted, tho i need the bushings that fit the red gear, and two of the g box casings that are missing here. :( http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02313.jpg It's also a good job i received another chassis with the front end,as it appears i'm too dumb to use a measure properly and cut the original chassis' too short :o. All fixed now tho,and another mockup, just chassis this time. :) http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02315.jpg |
nice, does two front ends mean it'll be 4 wheel steering and will there be articulation?
|
Yes it will have 4 wheel steering(hence the 4x4x4) it will only have the wheel travel of a truck with lift kit.
|
hmmm everyone wants four wheel steering... maybe youll get it?
|
Looks great so far. You had my idea of using two front ends for all wheel steering, but whn i was planning it i realized that i didn't know how to make it All wheel drive & out articulation on it. So i gave up & saved it for another day. lol

I did pick up a couple of pieces of tube from the lhs,but even the smallest i bought is too big. :(
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02336.jpg But remember the faux shocks from a few posts back? I did two types to see which look best. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02334.jpg Tonights Update: Started sticking some styrene together and came up with this. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02344.jpg Yup,it's the start of the interior for this truck,i'll be adding the full cage next. :D http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02337.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...s/DSC02339.jpg Comments/suggestions welcomed. :) |
looks great man, if you have any spares of those lego wheels maybe we could do another trade? :D

no i get that. i mean like actually steering it. like two servos reverse wired or what?
|
Ooooh yes two servo's,atm one will be reversed, but i'm considering putting a 6ch receiver in it.
If i go the 6ch route i will set it up so the rears can be set,or steer with or opposite the fronts. |
oh ok. i didnt know you were gonna try to go hobby grade with this one lol. that sounds awesome if it works.
|
I never realised i had not posted the elecs yet. :o elecs are,so far ;)
I have a micro esc (sanwa ES-01) and i'll decase a 27mhz am rec to reduce thats size too.Who knows maybe i can cram it all under the hood. I have the esc's specs, would the more knowledgeable among you enlighten me as to wether it will run 3 micro servo's and an xmod sized motor from 4.8v please? Power Supply: 6.0V-7.2V Maximum Current: 12A Continuous: 3.6A Voltage Loss: 0.4V (at 25 degrees C at 2 amps continuous) I know it says 6-7.2v there, but this esc came with another rig and it was running 4.8v. |
