The easy way to remove Paint from Lexan
Yep, easy.. costs about $5 in TOTAL and about 4 hours for a full 1/8th scale buggy body
|
not TOO bad but 4 hours is quite a bit of time to be running back and re-applying every 20 minutes.
the one thing that i didn't see in his stack-o-chemicals was straight up acetone. he has laquer thinner in there but that's a generic (loose) term for any derrivitive of tolene,xylol,methyl-ethyl keytone, acetone and a few other noxious chemicals depending on brand. i just stripped a Revo shell the other night with straight acetone in about 20 minutes. the only problem was i couldn't get that last little bit of colored residue without running through another 2 cans of acetone and another 3 rolls of towels. i'm willing to bet though that if you burn through the majority of the paint with the acetone and finish up with a 20 minute soak of the Dot4,you'll have a **** near perfectly clear shell in under an hour. |
Acetone is amazing stuff. I used our concentrated window cleaner from work, which is mostly acetone, to strip tint off both the CRX and CST10. Literally peel the stuff off with minimal scraping. The truck's pieces came off in one piece pretty much.

Some bodies will melt with acetone. (:

poly-styrene,styrene,acrylics and butates will desolve with acetone wich is why i've never suggested it for model,Xmod or mini-z bodies but it works wonders on lexan. |
well, i guess acetone does melt some bodies, but i guess it can be used:
but it is in the failed products section

i wouldn't even have to test mineral spirits to know that it won't do chit to strip anything other then wet paint from your brushes. the simple fact that he uses acetone to clean his hands is ABSOLUTE proof that he is uneducated and has erectile dysfunctions..... my guess is that he tried stripping with acetone the same way he did with the DOT4. i simply soaked a towel and rubbed the paint off. easy as that. the shell was already ripped up so it didnt really matter if it got ate up by a solvent but it held up. i got the paint off quick as chit. and like i said, the only thing stopping me from having a perfectly clear,re-paintable shell was the fact that once you start smearing around loose paint dissolved with acetone,it tends to make a smeared mess wich was a mess i was unwilling to deal with at that time. again, couple that mess with the DOT4 and by all logical thinking, you should have a clear shell within minutes as opposed to hours. but hey, if you wanna go with the advice of someone who can hardly complete a sentance and has to try bear dung to find out it doesn't remove paint over someone who JUST did it then by all means, opt for the guy with stinky fingers simply because it says URC.com in the lower corner of the viddy....:roll_eye: |

have you even been to his website? seen what he does? dont think im sticking to his decision because he owns a website, thats fine if he owns a website, i could care less if he didn't, but the thing is, he tried, it never hurts to try. he never said acetone doesnt remove paint, he said it does, but he said it also damaged the body by deforming it in one way or another. im sure acetone does remove the paint, as it is a very strong chemical though, him cleaning his hands with it still puzzles me, i certainly wouldnt do it lol |
Jang is one of the most experienced RC'ers and most respected too. He knows what he is doing.

wow!!! i sure am glad i used acetone to strip this shell... i like the way it turned into a puddle before my eyes.. FWIW,this shell has about 6 hours on it and it still looks just as good as above. so,i ask you,are you gonna houndog some dood just because you and every other painting noob buys into his rants? or are you going to believe the proof posted right infront of your eyes?? |
Who paints on the outside of lexan?

did we not catch the part about not wanting to deal with a smeared mess? |
i never said it wont work, Jang didnt either, but acetone is not known to be safe for lexan bodies
oh and btw, the rear bed looks a bit deformed, it might just be me tho edit: just noticed that the bump there is for the rear pipe, my bad |
Well then, I can crash into your body and scrape off that paint. :)
