Xmod Boat: Reconstruction

So xmodsunlimited and I have been trying to figure out a way to make a custom boat using the xmod chassis. the first prototype I came up with didn't work out so well. So now I have this:

http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC_0340.jpg
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/DSC_0342.jpg

It's still a work in progress but it works awesome. It turns, has foward and reverse and is unbelieveably fast. I have two stage 1 motors mounted to the boat and connected to the chassis. The cards on the front are just for decoration and I do have a cover for the chassis made from cards also.
Comments are welcome. I will keep everyone posted as I make more progress.

Honestly I have to say, its not the prettiest thing but it looks awsome & you need to get a vid of it. :D

no its not pretty at all. I'll fix that. I am going to paint some of the boat a matte blk so it will look better after that. The rudders are huge so they need to be smaller and the wires will not be exposed when i'm done.

Rather refreshing to see a build of this kind. :)

Nice work.

As Bananabrain said, video would be cool to see.

Cheers,
Kyle.

Heatshrink the connections and seal off everything!

pinsk17 06-10-2010 11:46 PM

I just had it in the tub, it's actually faster than I thought! I am going to try to get the propellers completely under water. They stick out a bit now but of I can get them completly submerged I think that it will be ever quicker. I also finished the cover for the top. It's made completly out of playing cards. There sealed tight and nothing is going to get into the boat unless it flips. Other than that, it's water tight.

Excellent job dude.

get a fet stack or a v2 and put 2 high current motors on it......oh and some liths........lol

good work so far.

we want vids!!!

Thats a pretty cool and oddly simple project you have going there. Maybe to prevent capsizing is to add some outriggers, and maybe move the motors out to them. Similar to the Earthrace, except the outriggers held fuel.

Keep us up to date! This looks interesting.

I am already working on moving the motors a little more out, and that pic gave some ideas. I'll probably copy that design and mount the motors on the bottom of the outriggers like you said.

I was looking at lith kits today Josh. I was so close to buying one. Maybe I'll have some extra Money after next weekend. I would love to get the double lithium kit from atomicmods and fets, and then maybe two speedy motors. I'll have to see what happens.

that is an awesome boat
i was actually thinking of building a boat but didnt have enough parts
sweet job so far please make o video of it soon

Be careful running in TAP water and SALT water. They can short circut everything and then. /facepalm

pinsk17 06-11-2010 12:26 AM

I will try to make a vid of it tomorrow.

I would really like to be able to mount the motors to the rudders and have the motors turn instead of having motors be stationary and rudders to turn the boat. I am going to try and make the outriggers turn and see where that takes me. I'll keep you guys posted.

I think u should add lithium, chili motors, and a fett stack, then cover it with a aluminum plate, then paint it shiny silver, then line it with a gold trim.

Probable I had already thought about that like a year ago, but the problem I had was making it light enough to fly. lol

XMDrifter 06-19-2010 12:34 PM

hope you can get it all worked out and waterproof. that's a pretty cool boat and if you move the motors out, you'll need to make sure their speeds match exactly. radioshack consistency isn't that great

ive seen model boats at my hobby store, maybe you can get a hold of one and use that.

anyway, looking good, cant wait for the next update. very very cool project

Update:

ok. its been a while but i decided to redo the boat. The playing cards were ok but i got sheets of styrene and got back to work on it.

I removed the cards and covered the frnt and sides of the boat with plastic:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0874.jpg
Next made the boxes for the motors:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0875.jpg
Made the rudders:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0876.jpg
and the side walls:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0878.jpg
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0879.jpg

So this is what I got:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0883.jpg
After that I made a cover for the top:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0884.jpg
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0885.jpg
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0889.jpg
Here's the chassis tucked away:
http://i931.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC_0888.jpg

I still have a bunch to do, but its coming along great so far.
The outriggers idea worked for about 10 sec until they filled with water and fried both my old engines. So that idea is out of the picture for now. I'll be sure to keep ypu guys updated as I make progress.

Can a MOD change the title to: "Xmod Boat: Reconstruction". Thanks
