note about using a heat lamp to dry paint
first of all, I use all Testors paints.
Using a heat lamp is a great way to ensure a very even coat of paint, allows for very fast drying, and realy helps prevent the paint from seeping under any masking you've done. It works especially awesome with airbrushed Acrylic paints, but it appears to have the exact opposite effect on Aeresol Enamel paints. I'm quite sure this is why my hood looks so crappy on my skyline. since it was the first thing to get painted, and spent the most time under the heat lamp. just thought I'd throw that out there, so everybody can learn from my mistake....not just me  |
i like that it seems important to know ill sticky it
|
yea ive put painted things from enamel rattle cans under a lamp an they get really sticky an gummy an end up takeing longer to dry

the reason enamels dont cure well under heat is because of the chemical composistion of the paint.
enamels and laquers will only flash cure under uv light. acrylics and waterbased paints will cure under heat lamps because it evaporates the water content of the paint. enamels= reaction to uv lightsource. it really isnt a big deal with enamels because for the most part the cure to the touch within a half an hour if properly applied. full cure in about 2 weeks. on the otherhand full cure can take up to 2 months if applied to heavily. waterbased/soluable= reaction to heatsource. also note that acrylics react VERY well to uv light.(anyone whos has taken a g/f or wife to get her nails done can verify this) bondo |

start a thread with all the questions you have in it. or search a little bit. most things that can and have been done to xmods have been covered. why cant you sand it? get some sandpaper and sand it some. you cant paint anything you want, but it'll resist chipping and flaking more. |
