Hummer Sut Conversion

Well i have looking at some of the other hummer sut conversions done by other memebers on the forum & another one trying to get some ideas & i finally decided to start on it. I just need to finish cleaning the body up some more, then i need to get the rear window at the right angle & shape that i want (having troubles with that). Then i get to start gluing, puttying. !!!Ya!!!
I have no idea what im going to do for paint yet, so any ideas would be appericated.

Enough talk here are some pics of it so far:
Before:

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/002-37.jpg

After cutting rear off:

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/004-31.jpg

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/005-32.jpg

Then after some tidying up & smothing out:
http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/006-25.jpg

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/007-19.jpg

Then here lies the problem for me, i can't figure out how much more i need to take off of it & i don't want to screw it up & i don't want the last part of the window showing too its like a quarter of a window. lol

Questions & comments apperciated.

A guy on another forum said the same thing. lol

I shaved down the window peice some more so its not so big, but its still a bit too big for my liking.

looks like good progress so far...for inspiration you could check out bondo"s hummer from one of the past couple contests...truly an amazing and realistic conversion...good luck with the rest...

Update time. I smoothed it out some more on the back & added the roof rack too it (Drilling the holes was a pain in the butt) lol & i got got the rear window about were i want it too be. The back window stiil needs a bit of shaping & i still need to attatch it & i think it needs to be lifted up a bit more too.

Here are the pics:

I think this will answer your question. :D

OK this Update is for kryten ::::)
I finally got around to working on the bed & i think i got it about were i want it too sit & i still need to add a back to it inderneath the window. I havn't really done anything else to the rear window yet, im still planning out what im wanting to do.

Also Ignore the Gaps between the bed & the hummer, i have an idea to fix that & i think it will look pretty good. Just need to get some Styrene or some other sort of plastic.

Sorry Mods for double post but i just had too post up this update.

Update Time:
Added that little suprise i had except i didn't say it was a suprise in the last update. lol

Still needs some shaping & smoothing out & i need to make the trim a little bit thinner for more realism.

Here are the pics:

Update time:
Well i tried to cut the window out of the frame & it broke the frame, so i started working on a custom window,Here is a pic of it. Also this fits the shape of the hummer body now, so way less body work i have to do. lol
http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/001-42.jpg
I also made the bed trim one solid piece & made it cleaner & i also got the trim to the right width to match the bed. +1 for me. lol

Got another update. I started working on the flare's for the back window its still a mock up but with a bit more shapiong & trimming i should have it & im planning on taking the back window & shaving it down some on the top & sides, so that way i can glue the flare's on the window & the flares will be even with the body. I also got rid of the three lights on the window since a real sut doesn't have them. I did make a piece to go were the cab is, so that way there isn't a big hole, its attached to the bottom of the window so it makes a wall.

So here are some pics:

Well here are some pics of it with the KC light bar on it, NOTE: If i choose to do this i will cut everything to fit & it will be level with the body not sitting a few mm higher, the way it is now. Also i made the back window & front of the bed one solid peice.

Here are the pics with the KC Lights on it:
http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/001-46.jpg

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/003-41.jpg

http://i362.photobucket.com/albums/o..._07/004-38.jpg

Then without the KC lights, just the bar:

The roll bar isn't doing it for me, but the rest of the project is fantastic. Keep up the good work. ;)

Your the first person too say that. lol
All of the other guys on xmf are saying yes for the light bar.
But im still undecided, so i could go either way on this.

Bananabrain 08-10-2009 08:16 PM

Sorry for the double post mods. Just had to Post this update up.

I was just being stupid when i did this & i showed it too my stepdad & he said it looked cool & it made it look more real the way i did it. So i may keep it but just make some minor adjustments, so it sits right. Also i am in need of another Roll bar (Hint). If i can get another one i will move the lights up to the First rack & put just a bar in the second rack without lights on it, so that way it looks like it has a roll bar & a 1/4 of one & then the lights in the front.
Also my stepdad said that the lights should sit about were the are since in real life the lights would need to be able to shine over the cab & hood to the ground in front of the vehicle.

A light bar may look good to give it that offroad rugged type look, but the way it sits now, the light bar just looks a little too high to me. If anything, I would move it to the front of the cab, not the back, if it were my Xmod. Do what you like though.. after all, it is your truck! :bigwink:

Cheers,
Kyle.

Thanks, lol

I will probable move it up to the front rack holes & move the rack to the back holes, unless of course i can get another roll bar.

Bananabrain 08-12-2009 10:49 AM

Well i put the lights above the cab & i think it looks good. Also im trying to decide wether to have the double bar on the back or a single? You guys can help me decide that.

The body work i did & i think i did a good job on it. But i won't know for sure until i put a coat of primer on it.

trans_am_lover_79 08-12-2009 02:33 PM

I like the rear roll bar. I'm not diggin the lights. Just my personal opinion.
The rest is looking right. Keep it up.

winner 08-12-2009 05:41 PM

im not a big fan of the roll bar in the back, and i would put the lights like where the top of the window sheld touches the roof of the car.... but it comming along nicely!
