Gas Prices..

[RANT]

I know many off us on here drive, but I'm wondering who has noticed a rise in Gas Prices?

I didn't notice the rise from $3.30 to $3.60 down here, until recently. I hear people complain the whole time "Man, you know how much gas is", "Man, cost me $60 to fill my tank", "Man, I'm broke". But these are the same people that floor it from every light and go 10mph over the speed limit on the highway.

And I saw this come up on a CRX Forum.

How high would gas prices have to go before you change your driving habits?

Becuase if people slowed down and took it slow, went speed limit and took some weight out of thier shoes, their gas milage would go way up. Just becuase you have a Hybrid or Honda Civic doesn't mean you're wallet will be any lighter, it's all in Driving Style.

For example, if I mash it at every light, and go 10mph over the speed limit the whole time, my gas milage drops to about 25mph (still purty good..), from about 35mpg+.

So, how high does gas have to go before you (or the general public) change your driving habits?

[/RANT]

LMAO - you're complaining about $3.60 - i'm paying $3.80-$3.90 over here in L.A. :roll_eye: - over in Malibu it's already over $4 :eyecraz: . It takes over $40 to fill up my little Neon now compared to $25 before all these price hikes and stuff. I do drive abit slower but it's not my style to do so every day -lol - a tank of gas last me about a week and a half to about 2 weeks sometimes now - you just have to keep your vehicle well maintained, tires at the right pressure, and don't step on the gas when taking off - you should gradually build up the speed and not launch off like a rocket:nod: .

Anyways, it should be reaching $4 a gallon pretty soon so until then I guess I ain't doing much as far as going anywhere or doing any unneccessary driving.:study:

+1, yup thats basicly what i do now.....no more taking a car load of people to the beach. I tihnk im gonna purchase a motorcycle or scooter and hold off on the supra dream  NOT! lol but still im most likely gonna go for a bike scince gas is going up. And here in Tampa Bay Florida gas is only $3.47 but not for long

atruebudfan 04-28-2008 02:46 PM

It's about 3.60 here, but i have to put 93' in due to the Cadillac eldorado i drive, so i pay 3.80. Before the gas prices went up i averaged about 16 miles a gallon in my car, since then i have been driving to save gas and its jumped to 19.5

Titantaw12 04-28-2008 02:47 PM

In New York its about 3:80. Its Crazy

imnotmikal 04-28-2008 03:24 PM

Most of you guys are talking about small cars, well my family is a truck/SUV family.
The only "car" we own is my brother's CRX he just got saturday.
Dad drives a '03 Silverado, gets anywhere from 13-17MPG, but its not that bad, he only drives about 200 miles to work on monday, and 200 back on friday. (He's a truck driver and is gone all week, work pays for the gas for the semi)
Mom drives the Suburban, gets about 14MPG stop & go. It's almost $100 to fill up, every week.
Brother drives an Envoy that actually gets pretty good. I tused to get almost 22, but he got some All Terrain tires and dropped to about 19-20. He still got 18 while pulling a CRX uphill on saturday.
His new CRX gets like 35(?).
Lasty, the '89 Silverado which will be mine, gets about 12 I guess. Mom and Dad are paying for my gas until I get a job, and hopefully by then I'll have my own little CRX.

(When we bought my bro's CRX on saturday, the dude tried to push a CRX on me that had a B-16 on it, and his main feature that he tried to sell it with was this: "This car will make you loose your liscense in a heart beat." I was like, dude, I'd like to keep my liscense..)

here around the Central Florida, Ocala area gas is about $3.50 And my dad has a 2007 Ram 1500 hemi Laramie with MDS so when you are driving under a certain RPM only 4 cylinders are in use so you save gas. But my mom has a 2006 Dodge durango V8 SLT that doesn't have MDS so that gets worse gas mileage.

$40 to fill the tank? My Rex has a 10.9 gallon tank....

Do you drive? No?
When I was up at UCF a few weeks ago, there was one or two gas stations selling gas at $3.00 PER GALLON. That was when it was $3.32 down here..

CRX's, FTW!! Woot!
The Standard (dx) Version of the CRX is rated at 31/34mpg from the EPA. Add 10 for the HF's and the Si's get about the same.. But I've heard numerous people in Si's have 45mpg...

Be careful of the B16(??)'s. If it's not swapped right there can be problems as always. But, it's a fun motor/car to drive I mean an 160hp in a 2000lb car is rediculous. Oh, btw, the B16 still get's good gas milage. I'll see if I can dig up the picture for you..

Get some pictures of you brother's CRX and send him over to:
www.crxcommunity.com

123Vette 04-28-2008 04:41 PM

3.70$ in a volvo that does 16-18 mpg.....

i no this is a litlle a**holeish but i dont pay for my gas my parents do so it realy dont affect me, or them cuz they can afford it.

But i do agree it is getting a little high

firebird999 04-28-2008 04:52 PM

when my generation is driving, it'll be a better deal to buy a new car than fill up your tank.

I'm pretty sure this dude knows what he's doing. We took a look under the hood, but hell if I know
He had the hood all locked up. Hood pins with some industrial locks.

My bro isn't really a internet forum type of person.
But he's been through his share of Civics (This is his 5th Civic, 3rd CRX. He's had a Del Sol, and I forgot the other one... He never brought it home kept it at our cousin's, he had just started driving and mom didn't want him driving a Civc.... don't ask why...)
But for all I know, he could already be a member there.
I've got some pics of it, I'll upload like 2 or 3 and PM them to you.

coolcar24th 04-28-2008 04:57 PM

Dang yall make me feel bad for driving a camaro that gets like 10mpg when gas here is above 4 dollars a gallon. I guess its time to switch cars.

texan_idiot25 04-28-2008 05:17 PM

I can't but help to have fun in the GMC when I drive, I don't pay for it's gas (1st and 2nd that little guy will really move). The firebird averages some where in the 20s, I haven't given it much calculation though, but it's gutless so I find my self getting on it hard often with our realizing it.

At 50-55 mph, the GMC averages 25 mpg, at 65 mph, 18 mpg, at 70 or so, 16 mpg. And that's with a 10 year old 4.3L V6. And that's straight off the on-board computer.

Gas is in the low 3.30s. If new laws get passed, the prices will fall. Every year gas companies make record profits while still raising prices, and it's going through congress to SEVERELY limit them.

xmodificationer 04-28-2008 05:23 PM

what does me driving have anything to do with this?

AeroSynch 04-28-2008 05:25 PM

My Ford Escort gets about 23 MPG, and the gas lasts for about two weeks, since I barely drive it, and to fill it up it is around $35 +/- here in South Florida, with prices at $3.60, or around there.

His first sentence says for those of us who drive here, basically.

I saw somewhere on the news about this station that sold gas for $0.76, but it was a few days ago.

Donziikid 04-28-2008 05:31 PM

It cost me $5.35 at the pump to fill up the Donzi at the marina. Places down in Detroit are seeing upwards of $6 at the pump for marina fuel.

WHOA! $5.35 per gallon?!?!?!!

texan_idiot25 04-28-2008 05:43 PM

Most boats seem to use higher octane, and that's just one example of how much control a station owner has over his pumps. On the water, where else are you going to go? More cha-ching.

civicblack10 04-28-2008 05:44 PM

Yea around me the gas at the marina's is like a dollar more:eyecraz: its pretty nuts how much money it is to fill up my boat now:roll_eye:

I've been almost forced to ride my bike to school these days because gas it getting up to 3.90 a gallon. It'll probably have to go up to 6 to 7 dollars before anyone cuts back drastically.

Ethonal.
Somewhat cheaper and higher octane.

I fill my tank to full every week, sometimes twice a week.
But keep in mind that I have a 80+ mile round trip everyday,
and I log about 1,000miles on the car every month.

Titantaw12 04-28-2008 06:44 PM

I watched the News and the Gas Price Nationwide is $3.60.

Nope. This is just regular unleaded; gets the same shipment of gas for his roadside pumps and his waterside pumps.

When we really want to take it out for a good spin we use high octane, but you can't find that on our river, we have to fill it up with gas cans with gas from in-town. :p

Most_Wanted 04-28-2008 07:02 PM

I wish our gas was in the price ranges that you guys are complaining about. I got some gas today and it was $1.33/liter, so that's about $5/US gallon. And from what the news has been saying, we will see prices of $1.50/liter or more by summer.

I share your pain..

I've DRASTICALLY changed my driving habits. Although the weekend before last I was out racing in the Camaro.. it was glorious, but man did it eat gas.

Now I take off easily, gently accelerate and don't care how long it takes to get to where I am going, I used to pass people all the time, now I'm the one getting passed.

I hate gas prices, it's $3.49 here, and with my Camaro seeing 10 if I'm lucky.. yeah. The past two tanks have gotten me 100 miles, FROM THE WHOLE TANK...

man, same here, its ridiculous...my dad drive's a semi and has to pay for fuel himself, a couple years ago he said it was like 1200/month, i was with him once in september, he filled one tank out of two and it was like 200 bucks:o

darkendblades 04-28-2008 08:01 PM

im currently using a 91 2 door honda accord and i get about 35 per gallon i have a 15.3 gallon tank and it cost about 50 bucks to fill since its 3.60$ here but i use 92 octane in my car so its a bit higher when i fill and it lasts me about 450 miles to a take last time i checked but if gas goes around 4.50 im looking for a better job but i guess going thorugh a divorce gives me a lot of extra cash anyways.

Ethanol is a bull**** fuel. You get worse MPG (the engine has to run at a much higher fuel pressure to burn the alcohol, thus sucking more fuel in the end). And until you convert all the transportation from between the seed and the pump to something cleaner, it's useless.

Biodiesel is where it's at.

It's practically the same gas as the 7/11, it's the location. That's why the Shell in my neighborhood is usually 5-10 cents higher then anything along the freeway. They take advantage of the location. In the case of boats, you can't pull it out during the day and drive over to 7/11 and get gas. Your in the water, so, jack the prices up on what folks need. And you ain't no poor man to have a boat on the water to begin with, so the cash is there.

Which... I have stocks in Exxon (knee-deep in gas, and future fuels, they'll be around for ever). My stocks haven't fallen yet. Just a gradual growth....

Buy Exxon Gas!

Europes been sitting on $10/gallon for years.

But he's in Canadia.

Though, my dream is to drive my Chevy in France one day. Take up a whole free way, park in the equivalent of 4 of their spaces, and ravage the country's fuel supply in no less then a week. Then over to Britain to use all 360 ft lb of torque to drag Clarckson and his fat *** and his entire office back accross the ocean, and force him to live in the back of my Firebird (the murderer car, as he calls these thing).

BART 04-28-2008 08:45 PM

I'm not going to argue either way but just think about this. Gas starts as crude oil which is drawn out of the earth, shipped, refined, shipped again and then sold whereas milk comes from an animal living on the earth with much less work involved in getting the end product... some may argue that the farmer has to feed the cow and bla bla bla but what about orange juice? 5 bucks a gallon and it grows on a tree with virtually no human intervention. (maybe this will mean more to some of you when you have a family, have lost your mind, and find yourself nursing raccoons back to life in order to quiet the voices telling you to steer into the bridge embankment)

If it gets to $5/gal out here in L.A. it's going to start another riot :cussing: :argue: :uzi: :beidd: - I'll be riding a moped to work with a can of mase in my hands then  .

A few days ago I heard on the news that people was stealing gas out of those Semis and cargo trucks from business that have them parked in there compounds, plus they were alos going around puncturing people gas tanks to drain the fuel - it's pretty crazy the lenghts some people would got to get gas now-a-days.:roll_eye:

Blackevo01titan 04-28-2008 09:25 PM

umm.... $2.50, yea, Ive alredy changed my driving style. Gas here is $3.65 (as of Friday)

I have figured out the best driving style, I now take the bus or walk to most of the locations I go. Especially to school, You have to slam on the gas to keep from getting ran over there.

Lol. I've read of people getting the Prius to do 140mpg, WITHOUT drafting.
Never, ever, try drafting an 18-wheeler.
Your gas milage increase expontialy, but it's dangerous!

use a trailer. (except when mayflies are out. my uncle filled up the boat when there were mayflies. you couldn't see any concrete there, just mayflies, and at some places it was up to 3 inches of them. i was the one who had to get out and fill the boat... in sandals... but on the way back a guy had swept them into a probably 2-3 foot pile...)

texan_idiot25 04-28-2008 09:46 PM

Is the trailer on the water? No? Well then there's your problem.

Do people, once they get the boat in the water, just going to randomly trailer it back up, and then tow it to the station (thus wasting more gas towing)?

Use that pink thing between ya' ears boy!
