But great idea!

Try the gift card first. Take off the front bumper of your xmod, and trace the outline onto the gift card, once you have the outline, use an exacto and give it a mm all the way around. From there you can add extra snazz to the front.

Here is a pretty good tutorial with visuals:

If you need any more help feel free to PM me or Color0.

If she posted up the reference pictures (I deleted them already. :eyecraz: ), you guys would get a better understanding of the car she is aiming for.

EDIT: Found a picture:

I'm pretty sure this is what she's aiming for. :bigwink:

Or neons...

M0DEL, are you going all out (Chassis paint, every little detail taken care of.) on this, or are you just doing the body and wheels?

Went out yesterday, and bought the supplies - FINALLYY! [to answer any questions; YES, i bought paint cans]
I masked and sanded last night.
I might have found a nice pink for the rims!

Let's just hope the rest goes well! :]

stangdude94 05-23-2008 02:15 PM

wow looks like a good sanding job

what kind of pink for the rimes like ur nails of darker.

but any way shuld be any awesmoe project

edit but instead of masking the head and tail lights just take them out from the inside it will save u trust me ik from one of my paint jobs

Cool, I always wondered if there were any girls that were into xmods, I think we even had a thread about it. Once we thought there was one, but it turned out to be someone pretending to be a girl by putting up pic of his girlfriend for his avatar. But now we know, there's at least one.

Your nail polish might be a good color for your wheels, I don't know how durable it would be though, might chip off.

I can't believe someone quoted me in their sig, that's definitely a first. Ha!

I was wondering about that..
the tail lights come out but the front one i'd have to glue them back in -ehhh

would it ruin them or do you think they'd be fine?

The headlight lenses should be able to come off, if you look at the backside there are melted tabs. Pry them apart with an extacto and the lenses will pop right off. After you paint, push them back through and glue them from the backside using elmers glue.

Whatever you do don't use krazy glue to stick the lense back on - it can fog up the lenses and ruin it easily (happened to me before -lol).

I kinda missed this project due to being so tied up with out stuff - seems pretty interesting and i'm glad to see another girl take a shot at this hobby!

Anyways, it looks like it's going pretty well so far - you'll definately get all the help on here - there's a few guys on here that know there stuff pretty well so don't be afraid to ask question.

Good luck on it btw!

Tmaxxn3 05-23-2008 07:33 PM

no i wouldnt crazy glue cuz it normally leaves white **** on it and it just looks bad id take it off and and glue it with model glue. i do it all the time. sanding loos great though.

noturday 05-23-2008 10:42 PM

taking the lenses out also prevents from any over spray getting on the inside and messing up the lenses that way. i've done quite a few paint jobs, and i always make sure that all lenses and extra parts that can come off, do come off. i also take the whole body apart and spray each piece individually rather than as one large piece so that i can remove parts later if i want to change them out or something, and it makes it easier to tape off parts you dont want painted

+1 Dont ever use Krazy glue. I used it thinking it would be fine, but it leaked right through the lense and it was ruined. Now I'm stuck with 2 headlight lense-less RSX's... And they stick to your finger instantly, which is usually good. Gives the idea of a strong bond. But if you accidently glue your fingers to the headlight lenses or the body, and remove your finger, it would leave a mark of your finger print:o (need to switch glue brand now...)

So far your projects looks like it's coming along great. As for the pink, the shade on your nail looks good. Scrape off the plastic/glue all the way untill they come out. Be paitent with them. Good luck with the painting!

XMDrifter 05-24-2008 11:41 AM

same here
i make sure that everything that'll come off is off, (including bumpers, wings, mufflers, hoods, etc.)
yeh texan knows what he's talkin' about.
i'll be a much better paintjob that way.
and crazy glue is the worst type of glu for things like this. elmers glue is the way.

light coats of paint! mist the paint. try to resist tempation to do full coverage of paint.(whe i first started, i couldn't resist...now i have a wrecked Evolution 8 bodyshell)
that pink looks good. looks like the subbie is on the right track

patience...may the xmodsforce be with you.
