He was using sarcasm. :bigwink:

XMDrifter 07-07-2008 11:50 PM

the thing about old cars with only 40 hp:
they can't do anything unless you bore out the engine to 2 liters and get the whole freakin' thing done up to race spec, and even then you'd have at most 100hp +/- 10 hp (most likely -10hp):D because by then your engine block would be so fragile unless you custom made an engine block too. it'd last about 40k miles then a pressure crack would blow out the side of a cylinder

stang_racer 07-08-2008 01:20 PM

as was i ther tex lol, ok so any new progress with the car????

Hardcore racer 07-08-2008 01:36 PM

not yet.Im trying to get a hold of one of my friends who is gonna help me with this.

Surgeon 07-08-2008 01:39 PM

You should do a 4g63t motor swap, will greatly improve your horsepower.

stang_racer 07-08-2008 02:05 PM

not really much point in such a small crappy car (no offence) also surgon, i assume you didnt read much of the thread seeing as though he said hes on a shoestrip budgit, lol been here done this lol but with a savage i started working at the hobbie store for all the parts i broke lol not bad idea but work then get the parts not get the parts then work, try and see if you can get hooked up with the automotive store in anyway

I did read it, and on another forum. The motorswap is done on the Mitsu version overseas. Although it is an ugly car, it is also a light car and would make for a decent drag platform if he wanted a project car. That doesn't necassarily mean now, and by no means would I offer a suggestion without taking into consideration that the person might want to research it.

Also, you know, that would make the perfect sleeper. The stock lancer's 270hp would deffinately make that car get up and go, if you were in a mustang and this thing pulled up beside you--you would race it.:bigwink:

Hardcore racer 07-08-2008 02:54 PM

yea i really dont have the $700+ for a motor swap right now.But maybe in the future.

How about swapping a chevy small block in? Sure, still is a crappy small car, but it's a crappy small car with huevos grande. :eyecraz: 300 hp and 2500~ lbs?

But, the fun part about the 40 hp, is you can have fun and thrash the engine with-in an inch of it's life as much as you want, redline shifting and chirping tires... You'll still only be accelerating as fast as the soccer-mom next to you in her mini-van at half throttle, so it's "safe"

Hardcore racer 07-08-2008 05:15 PM

yea it is safe..............................only until you get hit by a suv

XMDrifter 07-08-2008 06:55 PM

lol that was good.
a 4g63t swap would cost more than $3000 to complete. i don't think many people have that kind of money.
especially to dump into a tiny little old car.

Only a post from Texan...

Should be fun ripping that thing to pieces...Before you sen it to the yard (which shouldnt be too long from now) make sure cut it all up and lighten it up all the way and roll it down a hill...

No, not really. You can start with an Eclipse GST donor and go from there...

XMDrifter 07-08-2008 11:44 PM

and where do you find that for a thousand bucks?

Hardcore racer 07-09-2008 12:23 AM

well i just talked to my friend and due to circumstances we wont be able to start work on this project for another 3 weeks

I would start at the junkyard or craigslist.

here is one in my area:

I would try to find one with a better motor/crappier exterior.

XMDrifter 07-09-2008 12:10 PM

ok my bad. but if you were to get a brand new 4g63t with the transmission+drivetrain to make the car a track machine(awd from an Evo) then it'd be costly

but then again, just buy a used eclipse gsx

I would suggest the 91, it has practically the same basic motor as the lancer evo. Once you get the motor in there, you can start collecting parts to make it up to the evo spec or better(your preference).

Here is a 12 second colt(newer bodystyle) built for about a grand.

man I wish I had a car I could work on. It would be so awesome. That lil' car seems pretty cool. Do some work on that engine maybe bore it, get a exhaust, new pistons, cams, muffler, pulleys, etc. Seems like a fun project.
