Deffinatley. I don't think that its a bad idea, for something that doesn't have components on both sides that is...

With a gen1 (not sure about EVO) there are too many bottom components that would fry upon contact with the iron...

Yes, but you can always just melt it with a soldering iron and take it out by hand without ruining the traces and bleeding solder all over the board...

Or just heat it and wack it against the table until it flies out.
