with the tamiya speed checker do i need to use a 4wd car or can i use a rwd car because i want to test motors on my rwd car.

You can use a RWD car instead of a 4WD. The front rollers are only idle rollers because Tamiya Mini4WD cars are, as its called, 4WD, and you can't dyno that through the rear wheels only since the front wheels would have nowhere to go but pull the rest of the car along with it.
