Well I am not really done but it is getting close. Figured I would post it and get some feed back. I haven't added the front grill screens which will be flat black. The head lights area, fog lights area, rocker panels, rear fenders bottoms, the front air dam, hood levers and the rear pan will be flat black too. The resolution doesn't show it but the little cobras on the fenders look great.

First time I have messed with these, so this is my learner car before I do a candy apple red matalic 67 Camero. I also am in the middle of a Hemi Cuda.

I read the post about posting pictures, a little over my head I am afraid. Not really with it when it comes to computers. Don't know how to post at a remote site to referance the Http or what ever, and not too sure on how to get a small file pic to be large in size when adding as an attachment. The orginals I took are 3.5 megs per picture so in resizing the file and that's how big they ended up. Another thing I don't understand is the files I upload are right at 39K but after they load the board says they are around 20K only??? like I said beyond me...If someone could really break it down so a dummie could figure it out I would try.

Thanks

I had worked o nit a little more since I took the last pictures, still got a lot of detail work, like they say "it's all in the details".

Sort of a waste, don't really like Fords, just killing time till the 67 Camaro body gets here. How much of a problem is it going to be mounting the 67 Camaro gen 1 to an evo chassis? I only bought the Mustang cause it is now on sale at RS and has a chasses spacer on it. I might just sell this Cobra body when I get done, but it is starting to look good and if I had to own a Ford it would be this monster 500HP 07 Mustang but $50K is a lot of money for a Mustang.

I sold a 97 Z28 a couple years ago and miss it, bought it new, fun car to drive. Hypertec'ed the Computer, did a cat back and intake on it and it would smoke Cobras of the day. The new Camaro, if it ever comes out, looks BADD but again they will want $50K for the Z28 or SS I am sure.

Well here is a quick up date pic

hey mrupoo2,
that stang is killer and your attention to detail is bar-none.
did you paint the cobras and the stripes on the side?

mounting the 67mustang should be pretty straight forward. just use the rear clip from an evo chassis and any spacers you may need.

i hear what your saying about the fords,im more gm/mopar.
im currently rebuilding an 85 z28 and doing bodywork on a 73 z28.
ive also started the restoration of a 56 ford-o-matic.(its ford, but its old ford so its ok:bigwink:
this should satisfy your fix until they release the 06 camaro.

No i cheated, I use a graphics program, took real photos of the cobras and printed them on decal paper. I did the stripes and the GT500 on the sides with the graphic program. The only draw back is the limit of true colors that ink jets will do. I set them with decal set and clear coated over. Turned out a lot better than I thought it would. Like I said this was a test build in prep for the Camaro and the Cuda. After I bought the paint I saw a Cobra on line that was dark gray with black strips that looked really good. Would have done that paint combo if I had not started it white.

Bondo is a lot better when it comes to fabbing with putty. Dam he is an artist, wish I had his skill, if you look close enough there are a lot of iffy areas where I fabbed the nose. Some of it is that I really was just messing around, the hood should have been raised a little like the prototype but I knew I wasn't ready to do a major contour job on that big of a surface. The Cobras have a much higher hood than the GTs or Mustangs to fit the DOHCs and the blower.

I hear what your saying about Fords, back in the day they were great cars, the CJs were hot cars and they all weighed a ton too. I was only about 12 but had a friend who's older brother had both the Fairlane Cobra Jet with a 428 then he traded it in on the next years Torino Cobra with the 429 super cobra jet motor. Both were 4 speeds and did great burnouts. Fords do have a good sound to them. Ford lost their way over the years but this new Cobra is hot with the retro look and retro power is on target. Don't think it will pull Fords fat out of the fire though. We are watching the end of the internal combustion engine I am afraid. If not, the super HP motors for sure.

Sorry to be a pest, but has anyone used Future Floor Wax? Came in a clear plastic bottle and the wax itself was clear liquid. I don't even know if they make it anymore but when I was young after I would do a model I would take Future and a cotton tee shirt material and apply a coat on it. It made it like it had a coat of water on it. 100% crystal clear, glass finish. The only problem is if you got water or liquid on it after it was dry, the wax finish would get messed up so I would have to wash it all off in water with a little dish soap and then re apply after it dryed. But if you want a super gloss coat use Future if you can still buy it. I was thinking about trying it again myself, will let you know how it works out.

In fact later when I joined the Army I would use Future on my boots after shining them, made them look like patiant leather. Like a mirror! Used to get over on inspection days. Never let anyone know how I did it in the Army, I was always accused of buying special boots made of patiant leather.

he not really going off topic in his own thread, simply asking a question about finishes.

mrupoo2:
i wouldnt use floor wax if you plan on running the car.
it simply too soft to offer any kind of protection, your right though it does give one helluva finish. i used in on my models back in the day as well.
the best thing to do to get good, pure shine is to cut the clearcoat with 2000g and polish with a mild rubbing compound.
i use a 3m shine restore that contains carnuba so it polishes itself as it fills the scratches.

Bondo,

I think they changed the Future formula. I looked on line and ppl still use it on models but they now say it is a "clear acrylic paint", but it is still self leveling so it can be brushed on. Read where ppl are thinning it and spraying with air brushes. They say it is waterproof now, when I used it, it was water soluable after it dried and took a beating when you got it wet.

No, I am not really into racing the cars, although I do play around with them some. I would think racing would be hard on any painted body. How do your 1/24 models hold up to racing? I would think the type of plastic that is used on models would break on high speed impacts.

Sorry I have rambled this thread but WTH?

its been along time since ive used floor wax but it was in a yellow bottle and very thin. i used a shamoi to apply it.

the model bodies are great as far as with standing the abuse.(ive only ran the shelby)
i use a bit of tamiya putty on both sides of the body seems where the the pieces come together.
paint holds up well if its been fully cured. the acrylic paint seems to hold up better and scuffs from white painted baseboards seem to come off reletivly easy. if you just want a show piece then find a beater body.
i have 2 of the 06 mustangs that are crap and i beat the hell out of them.

thats a nice mustang. nice crisp edges and clean paint too. i give it a 9 out of 10, white isn't really the best color for it.

do the chevelle are they plastic or die cast metal?

mrupp002
12-03-2006, 07:36 PM
Plastic, old AMT models from the early 80s I think. I think the Chevy II was called something like "Street and Strip", the Chevelle I don't even have the box to anymore. I found about 6 more but they were in my garage crawl space and it gets well over 150 degrees up there and most melted. The finish on these two are shot. Looks like the paint melted in spots. It's a shame too the flame job on the Chevy II used to look excellent, but the paint sort of dripped like candle wax. I had hoses and wiring on the engines and that all was just laying in the engine compartment. There is one spot on the roof line by the right corner of the windshield that is a little warped. I had the insignias, door handles, wipers, gas cap trim done in silver paint and that ran down too. The glue is almost gone. Everytime I touch them something else falls off.

mrupp002

Yep it is a reflection of a recessed spot light in the ceiling. There are a lot of areas that I am not happy at all with, but sort of lost interest, in fact the front and read clips are not even screwed in. It took all my effort to paint and glue in the wire mesh in the grills, and file the headlight lenses to fit the new angle. The wire mesh really doesn't show well in the pics but it looks good as compaired to other areas like the door window weather stripping and the SHELBY on the spoiler. Looks really good from 3 ft away though.
