The way NiCd batteries work, the chemical reaction taking place likely releases a fair bit of heat. I'd imagine under continuously high discharge circumstances (Racing conditions, etc), it'd be very possible to reach dangerously high temperatures. However, the battery would probably either explode or melt the plastic battery holder first ;)

short circut is enoguh to blow your bateries, your car, or something else. For the effect, put 120 Volts into a 3 volt capititorr. What happens???

My 6 cells used to get extremely hot (probably because they were over the heatsink and got no air), so I mounted them in the bumper. The batteries stay a lot cooler. BTW, return the crappy xmod batteries and buy a set of Rayovac IC3s. They charge in 15 minutes, and are just plain amazing. I use the AAs in my CD player, and the runtime is amazing!
