I have been surfing for Li-Ion on line in order to build a couple of sets. I have some questions for this most knowlegable forum.

I've noticed some have ratings of 3.6v and some 3.7v which is most desirable :-? (2@3.6=7.2v or 2@3.7=7.4v)

Some say maximum voltage @ peak charge is 4.2v. (2@4.2v=8.4v) Will that voltage cause damage :o

What is the maximum voltage these little cars can handle :-?

Also is the mAh rating only refering to possible run time or is there also a maximum mAh rating :nodno:

Thanks

the rating of 3.6 or 3.7 volts is refering to average voltage they are both fine your battery isnt going 2 be any better or worse with those ratings the peak charge of 4.2 per cell is talking about peak charge so u wont overcharge it but even if it had 8.4 going through it the car would be fine mah rating is important if u want a longer run time or how "hot" your motor is if u hav a stock motor and run a high mah it will wear faster but if u hav like a fat boy hc u would want the highest u can find if u r going 2 make your own kit i would highly recommend getting batteries with solder tabs already installed so as to not damage the battery u will need aa size cells if u didnt already know and a lithium ion charger which would work best if rated at 900 to 1100 mah

Thanks for your sharing your knowledge all very much appreciated. I just got hooked on these small R/C cars and I'm very impressed cost and with the quality in relationship to the 1/28th scale. Finally scale racing that with a 20'x20' space you could have a nice race course.

I'm setting up two Gen 1 Civics both purchased on ebay for a song and dance. My thought was to build them up IROC style for a little fun in the driveway. The scale speed is not bad but I would like a little more. My plan is to install BB, Li-Ion or NiMH, a durable but not crazy motor with driveable preformance, some good race paint and decaling.

I'm attracted :smduh: to all those anodized machined parts but I'm not sure if they add that much in prefomance for the cost? I also :study: the tutorial at Atomicmods regarding fets for added voltage and the board modification for more steering which makes sence to me and seems pretty simple. I will probably do those as well.

Anything else you might see I'm missing or don't need to do give me a shout please. I'm a prisoner of my inexperiance  I would be interested in  taking further advantage of your experiance.

Best Wishes

Gearhead

Thanks again :hail: thats very sound advise. What in your opinion has been the most problematic or would make the most sence?

I was thinking maybe the front knuckles, rear axels, driveshafts, cup joints (rear axle) and rear towers might help create a very solid platform for a nice rear wheel drive car. I'm not that sure I want to do a 4x4 set up.

I'm still stuck bettween NiNH and Li-Ion but leaning toward Li-Ion batteries . The 2 cell Li-ion charger sold here @ Xmod looks like( Litcharge-500) it would do the job I'm not sure about charge time and it would be nice to get back on the track quickly. (1hr) What do you think.

Thanks Again :uhoh:
