hi guys! i actually got my SCX10 around the same time as Dr.K, but havent been posting it here, so im going to catch you guys up :D


well onto the build!
ok so here's the current specs and mods.

currently i cant use the truck because the drive shafts keep popping off every 2 seconds so i have parts on the way which should arrive the day after my new camera gets here so you'll be getting new pics with 14MP in HD instead of 7.1MP SD. once i get the parts i'll post up the videos of all of my adventures =P

Ok small update, i stole the shocks off my old T-maxx i totaled a few years ago. they give me lots more flex but are still too stiff to get the droop i want so i went on a small shopping spree.

not bad for terrible lighting. while i wait for the parts for the SCX to get here i'll have time to learn how to use it so i can get some decent videos ;)


UPDATE!
OK so Jason (AKA Dr.Kustom) is always telling me on MSN how dirty my stuff is so i decided to clean her up some while waiting on parts. and boy was i in for a surprize!

so normally when i get a new RC since i always buy used i rebuilf it from ground up before i ever even drive it but the SCX10 i was so excited i drove it and just never really got around to it.

so i was really expecting to see some old grease in these axles, NOPE!

Yes you are seeing sand, previous owner didnt lube the axles, and there's no way all that sand is from me!

cleaned all the sand out and met up with my good friend marine grease!

so all the axles/tranny is packed with grease, truck is back together and clean! whats next?!?!

ok hi guys!

quick update, Today i finnally got my drive shaft retainers, and i got new 10WT oil for the shocks got both installed.

Now i know some of you are chringing in your seats because i used Hot Racing, but in reality im a broke teenager with no job so yes they wrre cheaper but these HR ones will work just fine, i bet even a plastic retainer would do the same job just as well.

after i installed them had to check and make sure it had fixed my problem.

new springs got here, but even with the softest springs avalible and the lightest oil i could find (10 WT) i still had no droop! then i hooked up with one of my genius friends Mycrors4 and he tells me "hey man, why not put the spring out of a pen inside the spring?" so gave gave this genius idea a shot:

IT STILL DID NOT WORK! so tomorrow if i get the chance i will make the long adventure to the hobby town USA (AKA Rip off town) and try to get some 50 WT oil and put that in the shocks and no springs! hows that for droop? xD

its a bit hard to see the true color because of the lighting but tomorrow i will try to get some daytime outside pics. keep im mind this is without clear coat. and im my opinion i dont think this turned out too bad for my first metallic paint job

maybe a small can of REAL bedliner is available somewhere...hmmm....

i think those white steelies would look good on a darker...and more of a beater rig...like with mismatched body panels and stuff...i think that lighter blue and that stripe could use the black to set it off...

lol i really get what you mean about the money. im looking for a job and burning $40 of gas a week and its really not helping that i just lost the 3rd gear shifting solenoid in the merc so its revving real high in 2nd then slamming into 4th and then instead of 5th it goes into overdrive =/ but i've been getting $5 every 3 days on this website like lockerz for setting up a refresher while i sleep xD that's how i've been getting money xD

LOL i know but i really only spent about $15 in paints and the body must have atleast 5 coats of clear coat xD but once the panals start getting scratched up then i'll start repainting them random colors to go for that beater look then just rock that until i decide to redo it, then i get to start the fun all over again :D but im still not going to drive it until i get all the pieces and i get a friend thats a pro photographer to get a few pics ;)

lol yea thats on my list of things to do, it's just a major PITA to take out 12 1.5mm hex screws out with an allen wrench xD

but dude go check out RC Tech got mine in a trade for by Blitz+$125 so it was around $250-ish but for the same price as the kit it had all the electronics, a nice esc, 2 batts, and a $80 radio system. you could probably get a roller for $125 and get a XL-5 esc and a cheapo traxxas controller with a super awesome T-pro servo and RC4wd motor for like $70

but yea definitely not the cheapest but when you look at the most fun for your money compared to a SCT or Buggy its half the price and like 1/100 the broken parts lol.... but once you spend the big bucks for nice electronics the rest is only limited by your imagination and your building skill

took me all of 5 minutes after putting them on to decide they HAD to go, so same day as receiving they were for sale.

when i started looking for new rims/tires after the 2.2 i decided on 1.55, even better a local guy had a set of 1.55 RC4WD steelies with 1.55 RC4WD Mudslingers and a spare. i knew he had a 2.2 rig so i threw out a trade offer willing to ad to my side but he took a straight trade! i quickly dumped those 128mm shocks and went back to the 80mm ones that came with it.

some people kept asking why i did 1.55, well simple. it looks more scale, and it makes you a better driver. and at the last meet at stone mountain i was there with this 1.55 rig and everyone else had Wraiths (3 guys with wraiths and me, i hung with them just fine ;) )

some of you will remember the G6 i went to, well when i was there a guy saw that i didnt have a front bumper so he offered me one on a one off custom that i could not refuse! all it needed was a little cleaning up and a new coat if paint.

also spend awhile looking for a servo relocation kit that would let me keep my battery wayy up front an as low as possible. couldnt find one, so i did some custom fabrication :bigwink:

yup, that right there is a gens ace 5000mAH 40C 3s. and trust me.... its heavy. but now some of are are probably thinking "Heh look at this Newb, i bet tomorrow he's going to post saying he blew his Rooster ESC because its only rated for 2s, well for that, you'll just have to wait for Part 2..

after the trip to stone mountain Sam (my non existent driver) decided the front fender was too beat up, so he did some shopping and found an OEM replica for a decent price, Sam decided it didnt need paint right now so it stayed the factory protective coating color... flat black

lastly...
this guy was offering to build parts for some parts he needed, i just happened to have some stuff i really didnt need so i gave it a shot..... i wasnt too impressed. i got him to make me some Rock Sliders like the ones are RC4WD for Hilux. the measurements were off and the welds were very messy, spend a day cleaning up one of them and it still was messy, but oh well, it will work for now.

well here it goes...

ESC, thought long and hard on this one, when i realized i needed new batteries i decided to go up to 3S then i decided i wanted an affordable ESC that i could use in pretty much every RC, looked at the Tekin FXR but the specs for the price are just sad tbh, and i dont like how people like Medic blow it up to be something huge, so i decided to choose a small business run by 1 guy in a basement with great rep and prices.

so i bought a Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster BR XL sport combo. for $9 added to the price of the ESC you get a sport motor with your choice of turns, i chose 35T

but funny story with the motor, after a few runs the com... well.... exploded...

i contacted John (owner of HH) and he offered to send me a new one but i told him all i really needed was the Armature and a set of brushes. so all is good :D

also the drive shafts started breaking at the hoops so i replaced with some t-maxx ones i had laying around, but the plastic out puts kept sliding off so i ordered a set of Junfac ones

they work great! you just gotta lube them up every once and awhile or else they will bind under pressure


that's it for now, the chassis is pretty much bulletproof as of now. from here on out its really just cosmetics i want. i really want some Tamiya TLT Axles because they are narrower. besides that i want an interior kit to mod to my liking and a drop bed and cover shell. maybe even a set of Dinky links if they ever come back in stock
