Well here goes another year of slowly building up the car. But its starting off pretty good. Just today got in the new hooker header long tubes.

http://i47.tinypic.com/20k9bio.jpg
And another sticker to add to my collection
http://i48.tinypic.com/v41d20.jpg

Should be installed pretty soon a guy I know can probably install them pretty cheap. And if I have enough and X pipe will be going on aswell. Might even put on the valve covers that have been sitting in my room for months.

However my brakes had recently went out so I installed a new master cylinder but still need to bleed the brake lines there is alot of air in the lines. And I still need to buy a window regulator to get the window fixed. And had a slight fuel leak when I started it the other day so I need to change the hose to prevent another fire. Haha seems there is more wrong with it than working but its slowly getting there.

Headers- Get el-cheapo gaskets from any store, and seal with copper seal (it's like RTV, but with copper). I've learned expensive gaskets don't do ****! So this is my next step. Few old hotrod friends swear by it. Oh, and make a little drive with no pipes :P

Fuel line- Either go metal, or get EFI hose, it has a heavy duty plastic inner lining that's made to handle extra fuel PSI, but works great as a safety barrier if the rubber chaffs through.

Did you bench bleed the MC too?

And I'm in that same one-thing-after-another stage

supraboi97
02-17-2010, 12:22 AM
I think for the most part was that the clamp on the hose was a little loose and I was showing a friend at the time how loud it was in the garage and gave it two good revs and the fuel started coming out. But the motor wasn't warm so nothing ignited luckily.
I still have some copper silicone from the transmission gaskets so I was thinking that would work fine.

And yep bench bled the MC and the pedal still goes to the floor pretty easily so what I will probably end up doing is another bench bleed and then bleed the lines. Because the bench bleed didn't go so well because dad pumped the brake instead of slowly pushing it it so that probably just made it worse not sure.

Ya not a very fun stage and can get frustrating but it does keep me plenty busy

Well I have come to realise it has been way to long since I have updated this. Since my last update:
Installed:
Headers
Valve covers
Sequential taillights
Dual speakers to go over the back

Waiting installation:
New digital radio just needs to be wired up

Pictures
Engine bay always looks worse with a flash it doesn't look as bad in person. But I will do some deep cleaning soon
http://i40.tinypic.com/1zbv2uu.jpg
http://i41.tinypic.com/143gw1i.jpg

Will get radio and speaker pictures tomorrow and just get better picture in general. Was going to take it to prom but in downtown Dallas decided it wasn't a good idea.

Did you have to do any pounding on your headers to get them to fit. On my camaro we had pound the helll out of one side so it would fit

supraboi97
04-14-2010, 12:03 AM
More than likely there would have been but we had it done at a muffler shop. We would have done it but don't have a welder at the house and it means I would have had to run straight headers to the shop and my parents wouldn't have been happy. But today got the rear speakers put in i'll go take a picture real quick.

And one of my cousins had a sticker on his 68 camaro that I always loved and I finally found it :)

Little bit of an update:
Well I guess waiting pays off instead of buying my trunk lid new would be well over $100. Well craigslist has been my bestfriend on car parts for a while now. And after about a month of waiting for the right priced trunk lid to pop up it finally did. He had alot of parts for $500 for all. Well gave him a call and he said for the trunk lid and blinker hood would be $25. So took a little over an hour trip to gainesville and brought back these.

http://i39.tinypic.com/vy8jkh.jpg
http://i44.tinypic.com/30ksyf6.jpg
He also gave me this book from 1966 and its in great condition same book going on ebay for $50.00 and not even as good of shape. So if I were to sell this book I would have made a profit and gotten the hood and trunk. Very pleased and can't wait to get this thing stripped and painted and luggage rack gone.

Well after a long time of not updating today I spent a nice little drive out to caddo mills and decided to pick up some wheels off craigslist. As my early birthday present :) . Well gonna need some pretty big back spacing to run the backs because i'm going from a 205/70/14 on the back to a 275/50/15 and 195/70/14 in the front. Well the tires are pretty much shot but hold air. So now just time to save up for some pretty expensive tires.

http://i53.tinypic.com/znl8wg.jpg

http://i53.tinypic.com/m836g0.jpg

Originally I wanted torq thrust II's but just about every classic has those now. So i'm going a more retro look with a nice set of slotted mags, Picked up wheels and tires(even though not really usable) but for $75. :D So my day is starting off pretty good.

texan_idiot25
10-07-2010, 12:47 PM
Polished slots-mags rock. My dad's old 396 Camaro rocked them back in the day, with the slots accented in red (red Camaro). Bad tires you say? When the time comes, send them to hell with smoke, please :)

supraboi97
10-07-2010, 03:41 PM
Ya the front tires aren't even that bad but i need longer studs before the backs will even mount properly. So thats next on my to do list.

Bananabrain
10-07-2010, 04:42 PM
Gotta love Aluminum Slots. Great looking rims & they are gonna look good on your car.

supraboi97
10-07-2010, 05:00 PM
I can't wait to actually have them on. I've always loved the staggered look of wheels but until now I had all 4 the same size which was good for rotating. But they actually have enough tread for probably a month of driving since my tires don't wear down fast at all. So as soon as I find some studs and put them on there will be pictures of them actually mounted on the car.

texan_idiot25
10-07-2010, 10:39 PM
Staggered wheel goodness for you.

A friend of mine's old Mustang. 'Twas mean.

supraboi97
10-07-2010, 11:16 PM
Thats even the original color mine was, pretty sure that looks like springtime yellow. But oh it will be staggered now
http://i56.tinypic.com/2vchkas.jpg
Little comparison to the old wheels.
Then decided to bolt one side on the get the initial look but need two back tires before its safe driving on. Cheapest I found was tirerack for 212.12 shipped.

Thanks  i'm slowly getting it away from looking like a grocery getter. If only i could get rid of that luggage rack now. Hopefully am getting to take autobody next semester and if so its the first thing to go.

Those rims really do look great on the car.

supraboi97
10-08-2010, 07:12 PM
Ya I use to want the torq thrust the most but saw these on craigslist thougth to myself they would look great they are cheap and even have tires. Well my tires are the right size from my old fronts that have brand new tires so just need backs. But overall i'm really pleased for just $75 and like $10 worth of gas. Now I just need some mag wheel polish.

2jack3jack
10-09-2010, 12:40 PM
got to love the look, imo I would have gone with smaller in the front but you can't complain for the price. On my rims I think 4 inch in the front and 8-9 in in the back

supraboi97
10-10-2010, 11:49 PM

Ya because i think as far as the rim itself the fronts are 14x6.75 and the backs are 15x7.5 so the wheel width isn't much difference just the tire. that tire is the widest that can be mounted on that size rim and its staying that way :)

2jack3jack
10-11-2010, 11:17 PM
You gonna get traction bars? Once I got mine the wheel hop stopped

supraboi97
10-11-2010, 11:57 PM
I kind of doubt it, i've never had traction problems even with the car being as light as it is (appox. 2600 lbs) I have liked the looks of yellow traction cars sitting under the older cars. But I don't even have wheel hop or hooking problems so i'm not too worried about it.

01-12-2011, 02:45 PM
Well update time:
Radio finally wired up and it gets loud, at volume of 20 its a nice comfortable volume and it goes up to 100
Sadly though about two weeks after getting that done my radiator decided to spring a leak...again.
With the car being parked a while i'm taking advantage of the down time and doing what i've been meaning to for a while.
http://i53.tinypic.com/1zhcgn.jpg
http://i54.tinypic.com/29fe5vd.jpg
I always liked the black panel on the back but with the plastic cover ones running in the 200+ range i'm just going to paint it on.

Did a mock up in microsoft paint and rushed a little so its sloppy.
http://i51.tinypic.com/k2d0mv.jpg
What do you think?

Bananabrain
01-12-2011, 04:04 PM
I think it will look really good painted black.

supraboi97
01-12-2011, 04:18 PM
Ya i'm excited to see it but i'm taking it really slow and make sure i don't rush it. Plus the automotive primer and flat black paint I have says use in temps of 50-90 degrees and Texas is bi-polar and its going to be below 50 until the weekend. I will have pictures as soon as its in primer and paint though.
EDIT: http://i55.tinypic.com/2n1yjaf.jpg
Got a coat of primer down then took the picture. Has another coat on and tomorrow if weather permits will be spraying the flat black. Need to go pick up some clear coat first.

supraboi97
01-14-2011, 06:37 PM
Double post: Sprayed 3 light coats of flat black then used 2 coats of satin clear coat in attempt to clear and stay flat black. Well even with light coats of satin clear its still a little glossy.
http://i54.tinypic.com/2zhqt0g.jpg
Will have another picture when its put back together.

Bananabrain
01-14-2011, 06:55 PM
I think it looks great. Having a bit of gloss isn't gonna hurt anything. If you didn't want any glossy shine, I would have gotten some flat clear.

texan_idiot25
01-14-2011, 07:10 PM
Satin is semi-gloss, which looks better IMO

Your car and my friend's old Mustang have a lot in common.

supraboi97
01-16-2011, 11:59 PM
I think it did turn out really good especially for my painting skill level but i'm very satified in the results. Haha and Tex its even more in common than just now my cars original color was that yellow
And now its officially finished.

Man that looks good. Keep up the great work!

Bananabrain
01-17-2011, 10:40 AM
That looks great. You did a very nice job.

supraboi97
01-17-2011, 10:52 AM
Thanks Jabari and bananabrian, I was worried how it would turn out but i just tried taking it slow and not rushing anything. Not bad considering its with rattle cans. The initial sanding is what was the scariest, car was taped and ready and it took me ten minutes to actually put the sand paper to it:lol:

supraboi97
02-13-2011, 11:45 PM
So its been long enough since I have bought the new wheels and still hadn't gotten tires.....so I got tires. Long story but UPS is really backed up and somehow I only managed to get one for now other should be here tomorrow. But just a little teaser before they get put on this week.
DOT approved street legal drag slicks basically, BF GOODRICH 275/50/15's
http://i51.tinypic.com/vymmj4.jpg

Just to give you a better idea the tire it's next to is the current size of my stock back tires.
http://i55.tinypic.com/125qqg4.jpg
Also ordering an aluminum radiator sometime this week and possibly some yellow traction bars to finish the look.

texan_idiot25
02-14-2011, 01:56 PM
I forsee interesting/scary rain driving in your future.

supraboi97
02-14-2011, 03:13 PM
No kidding, I will be alot more careful and cautious in the rain from now on. Probably test the traction and cornering in the rain in a empty parking lot to get the feel of how it will do.

supraboi97
02-22-2011, 02:09 AM
Forgot to update since the tire install, definately looks alot meaner
http://i52.tinypic.com/erl5xd.jpg
The stance I wanted
http://i51.tinypic.com/35cjsrd.jpg
Decided to paint the headlight rings and blinker rings flat black, the blinker ones were done after the picture was taken I forgot to take a updated one but the bottom rings are black too
http://i51.tinypic.com/2cncwnd.jpg

Bananabrain
02-22-2011, 08:27 AM
Looks great, nice stance plus adding the black too the light trim pieces makes it look better.

supraboi97
02-22-2011, 09:58 AM
Thanks man it was kinda an impulse thing, I was looking at the front of the car and thought it would look good so I did it.
Here is one with the blinker housing actually painted too
http://i53.tinypic.com/34yeeq8.jpg

supraboi97
03-05-2011, 12:11 PM
Well I couldn't help myself, I love the yellow traction bar look under an older muscle car. So I was debating on buying the bars or getting a spectre air filter at pep boys that is for a carb and has two filters, kinda like a dual cold air intake. But I didn't want to spend that much on it.
Anyways i'll let the pictures show it
http://i51.tinypic.com/t4zdad.jpg
http://i51.tinypic.com/fe2kvn.jpg
Also in the process of getting the 98 street legal again, Have all the parts now just need to finish putting it back together then to register and inspect it.
http://i51.tinypic.com/2u9lfuf.jpg
And the best part is its great on gas, Just filled my car up and am going to figure out my mileage. Last time I checked it was around 12

texan_idiot25
03-05-2011, 12:19 PM
I'm amused with drag radials, traction bars, and the granny luggage rack on the trunk.

supraboi97
03-05-2011, 12:44 PM
Haha ya thats my attempt to half sleeper it if you can only see the trunk and not the rest lol. I have a spare trunk lid in the garage and i'm slowly in the process of sanding it down then going to primer it. Take some paint to sherwin williams and have them match it then put it on. I want that luggage rack gone too just running into obstacles.

It's really nice for a mustang.... sorry had to with me being a camaro owner and all lol. I do like it tho about the only year of mustang I like and if your ever in missouri stop by kcir and we will have to line them up

supraboi97
06-10-2011, 12:37 PM
Haha thanks but I rarely even leave Texas. Plus its a slightly modded 289 not much done to make it fast. I'll get back to you after I build the 347 i've been wanting

2jack3jack
06-10-2011, 04:21 PM
Lol ok I got something for ya. I got the parts ordered... a 383 with a whistle thats not a supercharger....bring that 347 on

supraboi97
06-10-2011, 05:05 PM
This may be the engine builds for next years build off haha. Really the only thing i've run though was a 70's camaro, Has a 355 with exhaust, mild cam, and and a 5 angle valve job but got him by about 2 cars in about a 1/4 mile. Havent raced it since car is babied now. And I know i'll never be in missouri but i'd love to see your car in person. I love the 60's camaros

If you're ever in Austin, or unfortunately in Houston, let me know. ;)

supraboi97
06-11-2011, 12:41 AM
Haha I was actually suppose to go down to Houston a while back to ride dirtbikes with my sisters boyfriend. But pretty sure going that far I definately couldn't take my car.

texan_idiot25
06-11-2011, 01:00 AM
How come? Besides the ridiculous fuel consumption, which can't be worse than the CST10's 3.73s on the highway... Which I used to run between Austin and Houston for months... at 70+ bucks each way...

supraboi97
06-11-2011, 02:20 AM
Ya my fuel consumption right now is about 10mpg and I plan on a nice cam in the near future so it will only worsen. But mainly because the car actually doesn't get driven much anymore and it seems everytime I take a long trip something goes wrong. I did just get a new radiator though so cooling wouldn't be an issue(which was the problems the last two long trips)

Well here is more for you :)
Just got my fog lights in and scored a good deal on them too
http://i52.tinypic.com/282kl0m.jpg
http://i53.tinypic.com/bi5jxt.jpg

They are sitting at a slight angle mainly because it was a mock up, I just need a couple bolts to mount the brackets and it will be set. They aren't wired yet either due to it being a mock up. Hopefully will get them done this weekend

Just realized I never posted pictures of the 1:18 scale i'm building to match the car.
http://i54.tinypic.com/2qv8kf5.jpg

Even have scale traction bars and fire extinguisher

Bananabrain
07-01-2011, 05:17 PM
Looking good, I plan on building a 1:24/25 scale version of my truck. Kinda hard to find all of the parts I need for it, like the rims, hood & other odds & ends. lol

I have found some of the stuff I need, but not all of it.

supraboi97
07-01-2011, 05:37 PM
I've got most of the little ends figured out. I found out the starsky and hutch torino had mags wheels just like mine so i plan on buying that model and putting the wheels on this one. Just need to figured out how to make the hood smooth and its basically done.

07-03-2011, 02:04 AM
Wired up now took about 30 minutes pretty simple

Haha I was actually going to start making one out of paper clip and see how it turned out, however the model still has a pretty good ways to go and by then i'm hoping my rack will be gone. I got a quote from the bodyshop the other day on painting my other trunk lid.

Looks great, now just through some hid's in the headlights & fogs & your good to go.
Thought about it but I have high beams to brighten it. Plus with the fog lights lit up it gets pretty bright now so I have a couple other plans im going to try to do. Not a bad idea though for later

Newly purchased 351W, Took a 3 hour trip to college station to get it and its well worth it. Guy said it was rebuilt but then change of plans and never got installed so he decided to sell. I have yet to check the block casting number due to the fact that its still sitting on that tire. But looks very clean and I figure some paint on the oil pan and it will look fine.

supraboi97

Ya it was pretty recently redone, I plan on taking the intake off soon just to have a look. But would like to get it on the engine stand first.

Ya it was pretty recently redone, I plan on taking the intake off soon just to have a look. But would like to get it on the engine stand first.

Just like the CST10's engine. Recently rebuilt, just a change or project plans for the owner. The exhaust valves were still clean in the ports it had been driven so little.

Good time to go 4 speed, just sayin'

supraboi97
07-25-2011, 01:49 AM
This one apparently was the same way. His plans changed right after the rebuild that he hadn't even had the time to reinstall it. So since the rebuild hasn't even seen an engine bay. However it is out of an 83 truck which obviously weren't known for speed. It will be a torque monster but lack in the hp department. Have quite a few plans of parts to go on before putting it in. Would like to do a T5 swap but not wanting to spend the money plus the C4 has been rebuild not even 1000 miles ago.
http://i56.tinypic.com/34ngx2s.jpg
Tomorrow it will be on the stand, forgot that most stores close early sundays and couldn't get to the hardware store in time for bolts.
