So I picked up a 1:18 scale HPI Micro RS4 4WD roller chassis from reaper, needed a little bit of love and a few spare / donated parts to get it working again but as I type I'm about 95% done:

I ended up using a ProPulse ESC and RX in combination with a ProPulse high torque motor, the chassis is setup to the longest length and drivebelt configuration.

The one piece that remains is purchase a set of Deans Plugs and re-wire the battery tray and ProPulse ESC, then it should be good to go.

I don't plan on doing a whole lot with or to this car, it was more that the chassis interested me so I wanted to see what it was all about, I'll get it up and running and maybe purchase a few upgrades but hopefully it won't become a bottomless money pit :)

So I changed the RS4 to the short chassis configuration and put the Honda Civic body on it that I had wanted to use:

Unfortunately this presented problems with installing the batteries so I gave up and went back to the long chassis configuration, also masked off the body shell:

Needs a few final touch ups but is pretty much ready for paint, now just need the weather to clear up.

Hoping in the next day or two to have figured out the best way to mount the ProPulse battery pack I planned on using for power, at the moment the weight is thrown off and the car has no handling....

I WANT IT! Can you take a shot of the Civic body sitting on top of your pro-pulse chassis? Want to see size comparison

Sweet, I had look at one of those before and almost got one... Once to take it out for some good fun let me know what you think of the Chassis.

Here you:

Wheel base is a little off but you could definitely drill the mount holes and run with it....

Thanks. There goes on turning my propulse into a on road drifter. >.<

The Civic is a short wheel base body, let me put the other body (which is a long wheel base) and see if that fits any better.

Also that was a ProPulse Truck Chassis so everything is jacked up, I have a buggy chassis that I will try them on.

if ur planning to use rc18r arms.. its gonna be too wide, the rc18r was meant to accommodate a 1/18th rallycar/widebody car, the mrs4 was meant to represent a touring/street car, you can try, but it isnt gonna look perfect unless u do heavy mods to the chassis O.o

So to help the aerodynamics of my RS4 I've modified the shell to be super smooth::

:duh: just kidding.... I've final finished my masking in preparation for paint:

I will try to get to it this weekend, I have something else I desperately need to clear coat so we shall see what happens....

I could always grab a sheet of CF decals and do the hood that way....

i just thought of something, would u do the clear coat.. before u start painting? or after? lol its kinda got me juggled and really confused, cause there is no need to do it ontop of the body

Nope its not a secret :)

I need to clear coat my RSX

http://xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18481

So I can wrap up the interior....

As for the RS4 as the masking is done I went back to work on the body:

1. Changed out the rims for a different set, may also paint these orange and black, going to see how the body turns out first.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3969.jpg

2. Installed the trays for the ESC / RX.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3961.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3962.jpg

3. Re-wired ProPulse ESC with deans plug.

4. Stupidly swapped out the broken RX antenna wire with to thick of a gauge, so need to redo that at some point.

5. Installed ESC and TX.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3971.jpg

6. Started to tidy up the wiring.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3970.jpg

Need to install the other deans plug onto the battery tray and then I should have power.... I'm a little worried that I might have trashed the rear diff trying to get the old rims off, need to get the car running and test.

At this rate that will be once I've painted the body shell :) I now remember why I moved away from smaller scales... my big clumsy hands prefer 1:10 scale parts!!

still 1/18 is quite small(specially the MRS4 compared to the rc18, its quite tiny, i made a comparison with mine and my friend's before i made that stupid trade :( not im mad cause i have LiPos i can use for it  , im also a PM away :D
but to me 1/18 is better for regular on-road bashing, 1/10 gets too big for on-road, unless its an on-road car

So I thought I was done with the chassis but when I plugged in the juice I found that I had a minor issue with the ProPulse ESC, I don't know if it was a case of my 4 AAA batteries weren't giving it enough juice so it wasn't turning on or what but either way it got really annoying!!

Luckily I picked up a 1:10 scale Msonik 4 RV15 ESC from reaper a few weeks back, it needed a few plugs re-installing so I stayed up late last night getting it all re-wired.

I also re-wired my ProPulse RX with the correct guage and length of antenna wire.

I plugged in ESC and straight away it lit up!! So I put the car back together and hit the gas only to find I still hadn't got drive, turns out that one of the motor mount screws was going so far into the car it was jamming the arm, once I got that mounted correctly the car was ready to rock.

Final thing to do was program the ESC, it was stuck in race mode (which I personally can't stand :)) then I got it stuck in a mode where the power was on about 10% all the time and then finally I got it into the forward / reserve mode I was looking for.

I will put together a video later for the moment these poor quality photos will have to do:

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3978.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/micrors4/DSCF3979.jpg

I still need to tidy up the wiring and find a power switch as currently to get power you have to twist the two black wires together :) Oh the servo also needs securing a little better as it twist quite a lot at the moment.

The ProPulse high torque motor works really nicely, I need to get the sticky strips for the tires as they keep flying off but I have tons of power, I'm still getting some slipping on the motor gear, I'm thinking it's just not mounted quite right and I'm thinking I might install the ProPulse metal gears at the same time as checking the mounting.

All I need to do now is catch a break in the weather and get the body shell painted, not sure when that will be as they are predicting more snow....

Comments welcome :)
