So I was working on a deal for a TT-01D, the price was amazing but the deal went south and I figured I would see what I could find floating around on eBay unfortunately no D-spec ones where listed but there was this used RTR TT-01 going for a low amount so I figured I would try my luck.... I ended up wining the auction for $65 and after what seems like forever it is finally here:

2 sets of Venom 3000mah NiMh batteries

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg244/TheB1gDude/tt01/IMG00230.jpg

2 sets (1 new, 1 very very used) of ABS drift tires.

It has a Porsche body on it that is in fairly decent condition and a Mitsubishi body that is trashed.

Futaba T2PH 75MHz TX.

It was missing the body clips but otherwise is good to go, I used 1:18 ProPulse clips to set it up until I buy some replacement ones.

I've heard that the Venom battery packs aren't wonderful so I'd like to upgrade those at some point, ideally I would like to go to liths but as that will require buying a new charger I'll just have to deal for the time being, the second pack may be going into my ProPulse.

It has the soft rubber tires installed at the moment but I'd like to move towards drifting, I'm going to go for a few basic upgrades like bearings, graphite chassis, allow, etc, but that will all be as time and money allows.

Let me know what you think :)

Thanks :) You have a bit of a battle with yours but it will get there....

Whats annoying me is the handset needs 12 AA batteries which I don't currently have!!

ouch thats a bit too much, all of mine use 8, well i should be getting my rc18 today and lets see how many that needs... you can always throw in some TX batteries, or buy some, i know some places sell them and you recharge it through the remote
try these:
http://www.hobbypeople.net/prdcls/battr01.asp

yea mine might take a while, too many things to decide from, should i get a $500 2.4ghz or a $400 2.4 ghz or a $50 2.4 ghz? should i get a Novak BL system or a CC system.. what servo to buy... i think i might go nuts or my head might explode before i finish it

Looks nice BIG. For the batteries I would for sure recommend orion. I have a 5100mah battery and it does really good. Very reliable and just a all around good battery. When you go to upgrade your charger I would say get a duratrax onyx charger. I have one and it does everything from lipos, lion, nimh, nicd, and I think 2 more. If you go lith go brushless :)

You should get a mustang body lol.

Anyway looks great whats the major differences between the TT-01 and the TT-01D?

The Duratrax Onyx was the charger I was going to get.
Definitely going to go lith and brushless!! :)

Working on something special for the body but most likely it will be a Mustang :)

yea, ive heard that the tt-01 makes a great rally car, or you can but the new Rustler VXL, which is even better for snow:D, and just 1 questions. is this your first 1/10(i know its a bit of a stupid question, but i couldnt find anything else in the 1/10 section that is your, unless i'm becoming blind O.O)

A long long long long time ago I owned a Nitro 1:10 Mini Cooper I gave it to someone to sell for me and they ended up screwing me over :( I wish I still had it so this kinda makes up for that... so this is my second 1:10....

the tt-01D comes with bearings, adjustable steering links and upper arms, sport tuned motor, oil filled shocks, softer springs and drift tires.

Thats the one... I have the drift tires but that's about it, I'm going to get the bearings and shocks a few alloy parts, maybe I'll look for a roller tt-01D.... :)

OK still figuring out the charger, it seems pretty intelligent allows you to program in 3 different packs of different types NiCd / NiMh, different MAh etc... then takes about 10 minutes to charge the pack to full which gives maybe 20 minutes of run time... I need to find the instructions because I feel like I should be getting more from these packs.

Here are 3 quick crappy videos of my driving the car in my kitchen:

1 of 3 drifting in a small space :)

OK I have the ABS drift tires fitted for this run, as you can see fairly early on one of them isn't fitted correctly as it comes flying off from then on I just drive around without getting any real drifting going....

K62EK-qJpvg

2 of 3 drifting in a small space :)

Switched to the soft compound grip tires for this run.
Got a bit of drifting, mostly just attacking the cats and going round and round in circles but a few times (probably not on camera) I managed to pull the nose out of the spin and start sliding.

NEED MORE SPACE!!!

YSBuFuLnlS4

3 of 3 drifting in a small space :)

Well at the end of the last video I wiped out the cats water bowls so on this run despite the better camera angle I couldn't get any grip due to a wet floor :(

Will have to get it out for a burn when the snow melts!!

II7gFdWES_Q

As you can see I need a lot more space and practice to actually get a drift going but at least the cats liked it!!

How solid of a base do you think this car is? I'm wanting to build an all out lipo/brushless top speed car and just trying to find a decent platform. I have 4 tamiya F1 cars but they are RWD and very hard to drive with even mildly modded motors. I think they are the ta01 chassis, cant remember right now but thats irrelevant to my question.

the friend that gave me the TT-01 has a running one with the CC sidewinder 4600kv system, all he has as an upgrade is the body, rims/tires, and the alum center shaft, and it runners great, he's flipped it many many times, he's gone through 3 bodies, and not one thing has broken, except a few wheel nuts

There is an ebay store doing custom painted bodies that are really nice, I'm in talks with them right now to try and sort out a Mustang shell.

Seems pretty solid, plus you can buy the tubs for nothing I guess the problem is getting gears that wont melt and crack under that sort of stress.

actually, i wouldn't go BL on the TT01 if i were you. the TT01 spur gear gets easily melted/stripped when subjected to BL power. i'd stick with something along the lines of a 19t mod-motor and lithium. 3Racing has a nice carbon-fiber conversion kit. you just have to seal the edges so it doesn't delaminate on you. also you may have to get a new body due to the 3Racing kit's length discrepancies, or so i've heard. but that's an awesome deal. i paid 200 bucks for my tt01 and it's bone stock: plastic everything. no upper plate, normal plastic dogbones... it works, just not as well.

the TL01's are good for BL though, and so are TA's

and countersteer drifting can be veyr addicting if you can get into it. Active hobby is going to come out with a CS kit soon that is bolt-on, and then you can CS drift.

The 3Racing kit was the one I was looking at, didn't realize it needed to be sealed though... thats a pain!! I'll look in the chassis lengths though....

yeah, chasis seali is a pain, but definitely worth it if you got the cash for it. a carbon chassis is really stiff compared to the tub, and your handling can become more consistent with the conversion. I recommend HPI bodies and Tamiya bodies. many others are a bit questionable in detail level or they're jsut **** expensive.

but oh well at least the shinny GPM makes up for it :)

Well I figured as everyone else was posting up their latest TT-01 photos and modifications that I really needed to do something on mine, now the reason I haven't is because I've been waiting since December for a body I purchased from an eBay seller he finally sent it out to me a month or so ago but the quality was terrible so I sent it back and told him to redo it as I had asked him to, it is supposedly done and is meant to be being shipped out to me in the next week or two so expect more updates from me once that arrives.

Whilst waiting on the body I have been searching to find a set of rims that would work with it, I never found the right set so figured I would just sand down my current rims to remove some of the curb rash then repaint and gloss them, they now look as follows:

I also decided that as it was such as nice day I would take a few shots of the shinny GPM:

only thing throwing me off is the scraped up undertray, but hey, it was used, so it's expected. though you can probably get the bottom smoothed out somehow or get 3-racing's graphite chassis conversion kit

Actually I have heard that it is quite useless when it comes to racing. I don't know if it's true But B1G linked me to a site, something like budgetbuild or something and it said that on there.

However, from personal experiecne. In the drifting platform... It rules.

I am happy to give you his name but I don't recommend him, I've been waiting 5 months now for my body which is kind of ridiculous.

Whilst it's true that I will never do any serious competition racing it's not about that or even about the look of CF, from what I've read it just doesn't benefit you and for the cost I could buy a ton of other parts.

I don't know who gave it to me but it's probably in this thread somewhere :) So whoever it was thank you because it's a great read, the guy pretty much runs through all the commonly available upgrades and tells you what is worth spending money on, the CF upgrade isn't something he reckons is worth it.

OK guys I figured that is it looks like my new body is lost at sea I may as well share my nightmare with you....

So obviously I wanted a Mustang body for my TT-01 luckily HPI produced a GT-R Mustang shell and I managed to find an eBay seller who custom painted shells as requested.

I sent him photos of my car, told him I wanted the body painted identical, so Windveil Blue with the black superstripe, he told me not a problem body and the wing could also be done to match my car, this was back in November 09 and he told me there would be a delay due to Christmas but the shell would be done and out at the start of January, I waited and I waited and I contacted him and told me it was going out next day, two weeks later nothing so I contact him and tell him nothing has been received, a week later he gets back to me and tells me it must have been lost so another one will be going out the following week, 2 weeks go by and he finally gives me a tracking number, 2 more weeks and nothing he just keeps telling me the USPS site is slow to update blah blah blah.... well finally May 2010 the body shell arrives but I have to say I am less than impressed...

The stripes are duct tape, the paint job is terrible, the wing is not painted, there are runs everywhere, the cutting is crap, my list of problems go on so here are a few photos:

The only positive thing I have to say about it is that the color match is really good, the flash kind of ruins it but in natural light it looks really nice.

So I got back in touch with him, showed him the problems and ask him the next step, he tells me to send it back and he will fix it so I do, when he gets it he tells me he will refund me the money, I tell him I don't want a refund I want the body he told me he could paint so he says to more weeks, 7 weeks go by and I still don't have an answer, I email him daily and then finally yesterday he tells me he will be refunding me this week to which I just say "fine" honestly this guy has been such a douche to deal with I want nothing more of him.

I'll get my money back and the paint the shell myself.

For those interested the eBay seller's profile:

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=rc-racingzone&ftab=AllFeedback

I wish I had done some more research because I'm not the only person unhappy with his work.

Then his website is:

http://rcracingzone.com/

He get's some really nice pre-painted shell's but they are direct from HPI or other sources so I wouldn't even waste my time buying from him

$45 for it painted supposedly as I wanted... the clear body is $29.99 direct from HPI so $15 for labor and paint.

The TT-01 isn't currently running as I've swapped out my ESC for a Dynamite Tazer 15T and I need new plugs for the motor leads, I ordered plugs over a month ago but due to a PO screw up I am still waiting for them.

Plans for a new body are also afoot so next few months should be interesting :)

A few quick updates whilst I wait on my new body :rockon2:

A few months back I purchased a Dynamite Tazer 15T 1/10 ESC from Goodfellaz, it had a Deans Mini plug on the motor wire so I needed to swap that our for a Deans Ultra plug, I found a eBay seller doing 10 pairs of plugs for 10 bucks they of course had to be located in China to get such a price but I figured whatever and ordered them, the Post Office claimed they tried to delivery them two weeks after they shipping but as I work from home I know they didn't!! Anyways after a long battle with the Post Office, the seller and PayPal I managed to get another set shipped out to me and they finally arrived a few days ago.

The ESC and Motor plugs have been swapped out for the Ultra plugs, the ESC has been mounted, everything has been connected and finally the ESC was programmed, I'm really happy with it's performance and hope one day to add a lower turn motor as the 27T SuperSport I have in there right now is a little high of a wind count for my liking.

Below are a few quick photos of the newly installed ESC, with any luck the new body should be here in the next few weeks and then I'll do a whole bunch of photo updates :)
