I got us a kitten yesterday (Eva), and she has not eaten or drank anything in 24 hours. Needless to say I'm starting to get a little worried. She plays when she is awake (which is not very often, sleeps all day) but turns her nose at any food I give her, even fresh tuna! Is this possibly just an adjustment period to her new home? I plan on calling the vet in the morning, unless this seems normal to anyone.

How old is she? She might just be a little uneasy about the new surroundings... Make sure she drinks some water, and just try to make her feel comfortable.

Call the vet just to be safe but typically they take a good 2 weeks to get adjusted... if you have other cats it can be more or less.

We found and then adopted a stray one 3 weeks ago and he had everything you could think of wrong with him, he's being in isolation since we got him home, finally everything is cured and tonight he will be released to play with the other two.

We have had minimal contact between the three of them and what contact they did have was full of hissing but now they appear to be fine with each other......

has she pooped? She may have eaten something that created a blockage. If that the case she may cry when you pick her up because it hurts.

Also is may just be adjustment depression, if that's the case she will eat before she starves.

she is supposed to be 9 weeks old, we have a rabbit, guini pig, and dog that she gets along with fine, she just will not eat or drink.

All cats are different... it annoying but thats just the way they are... like jimmy said she will eat before she starves so let her go till morning then call the vet and schedule a check up just to be safe.

Well she drank a little water this morning, and tonight she tried to attack my supper so we figured she was starving, had to basically put her face in her bowl but once she figured out the stuff in there was good, she became an instant eating machine!

She is still trying to figure out where the heck she is, might have yet another mildly retarded animal which is fine with me. The dog loves the rc's though.

Cute kitten. Looks like a cuddler. Our Tabby, Max, is sweet but so timid, that one time I sneezed while petting him, and he ran away.

Have you tried giving her a ride on one of the RCs? Is she already houstrained? She pick at the couch or have any nervous habits?

Update on the "free" kitten. The ticket I got when I went to pick her up ended up being 105 bucks and 2 points on my license (not a speeding ticket, illegal u-turn). So we got up this morning and she could not walk. She would take 2 steps and fall over. My wife rushed her to the pet ER where the tests and dollar signs started racking up. She had zero blood sugar and we were told she would probably die without further testing:(. I ok'd the tests and 498 dollars later they said she is healthy but was malnourished to the point of exhaustion (she eats constantly but came from an unhealthy environment and is way under weight). She is in the ER now for the night on a glucose IV and should be able to come home tomorrow. So now my "free" kitten has ended up at the 605 dollar mark in less than a week and she still needs to go to our regular vet for more tests. Just an update/slight vent.

Man I am really sorry to hear that.... the problem with cats is that they hide their pain so until they are at the point of collapse it is hard to tell if anything is actually wrong with them which is why it seemed as though she just needed to adjust to a new home.

I feel you pain on the bills though... did I ever share my troubles with you...? I got my wife two RagDolls from a breeder in Canada so I paid $800 for the two cats about $200 for the road trip to Canada which I did in a day, when I got them back I had to pay $50 a cat to have them registered as they are supposed to be pure bread cats, with a few weeks one of them became sick so we took him and the vet told us he had a rare genetic defect that was breed into RagDolls a few years back when Oprah made them the most popular cat in America (**** you Oprah!!) the defect has pretty much been breed out now but the breeder I got them from was a bad bad breeder who deserves to burn in hell... so I'm already at $1100 plus the initial vet fee's puts me at about $1300, then the sick cat gets really bad so we take him to a specialist and I pay another $1000 to be told he will die within a few months, he makes it to a year but then we have to put him down because all he does is lay in the corner crying in pain, we also get his brother checked out who has the same issue but just not as badly that runs me another few hundred so my cost for two cats one of which died within a year and one that probably wont make it to 3 is $3000, the money doesn't really bother me because I would rather the cats had a decent life and went peacefully when it was the right time but it does **** me off that people like this are allowed to breed and sell cats just as a way of money some quick money....

I hope that everything works out and your family is able to enjoy many happy years with the kitten.

wow... i am truly sorry for both your misfortunes. we have 3...em...make that 4 now thanks to the wife...all rescues from bad households or bad situations...i must admit each one has had there share of financial investments...but in the long run the years of cuddles and purrs have outweighed the expenses...and this is coming from 2 people who were NOT cat people...just make sure kitties are tested for feline aids and such...be very careful when introducing a new cat to resident cats...and i hope the little orange furball doesnt give you anything else to fret about...and lives a long happy healthy life. a couple of mine love xmods btw lol

poor kitty.

the cat in my avatar developed hip dysplasia when he was about 1 year. We paid close to 2 grand to have his hips removed. We then kept him in a small cage for about a month while cartilage grew and rejoined his femurs to his pelvis.

But now he is perfectly fine, you would never know he had a problem.

So your cat has no hips, sorry but I'm confused and fascinated, please elaborate as this has become the unofficial dysfunctional cat thread. Eva Braun will be home in the morning. We pick her up at 7:00.

I had to give my little grey tabby away. We fed her fat though. She was the cutest thing. Everything was fine with her. Good times.

i grew up on 10 acres and had quite the few cats and dogs. Me personally i prefer dogs. we had a few cats that would hide in the engine compartment. lets just say we never lost a cat due to that, but one cat lost most of its tail running it through the serpentine belt on start up.
we had another that was by the fan. got smacked in the head a few times. cat wasnt exactly right after that but was the friendliest cat we had. just had a nervous twitch every once in a while.

I got alot of cats 5 in total one of them is nearing 21 years old and she still runs around outside after birds and mouses and stuff. I have a mancoon pure black with bright green eyes a calico a tortoise shell calico not exactly sure what our other black cat is he has really long legs though and a little white spot on his chest so we call him geovoine and then you got the old cat we arent exactly sure what breed she is but she is white and black and is still very loving. Sadly we had to put down our black lab/dalmation she lived to be around 19 or 20 but she got arthritus in her hip and started throwing up alot took her to the vet and had her put down :( one of the best dogs that ever lived to be honest. She would listen to you wouldnt have to have her on a chain or anything like that. I miss her alot sadly will never find another dog like her. http://www.joysjoy.com/pictures/kings_7.jpg my mancoon looks like that one he is one big cat.
