well my laptop got infected with a virus that I could not successfully remove with my abilities so I reformatted the hard drive. I have been using Kodak easy share for many years now since it can with my first digicam. Since I'm rebuilding my software from scratch I'm wonder if their might be something better out there. I have tried the Nikon picture project 1.5 on my desktop but for some reason it always crashed my machine while I uploaded my images.

Here are some features I want

ability to organize by date shot or uploaded

good red eye removal

some post processing but I'm not asking for photoshop

fast uploading

smooth performance

I also want the software to be able to recognize images that
have already been uploaded

economic

Thanks in advance

PS does any one know what software can tell how many times the shutter has been used in my camera by reading a jpeg image? i have heard about this recently so I'm a little curious

Google's Picasa is pretty solid at all of that. It does everything.

i find that apples IPhoto is realy nice.. keeps your photos well organized.. and if you really want to get nice then apple's product named aperture is really nice... it brings photo organization to a new level

Also might want to look into flickr or photobucket, they don't do the imaging stuff you want, but you can use them to store your pics.

Also might want to look into getting a external or flash drive for backing up your work so next time you get infected with a virus, you won't have to worry bout loosing your work. trust me happened to me twice this year, nasty virus hit me, luckly I didn't loose any of my stuff :)

I have a large pro flickr account, but I'm looking for software to organize photo on my hard drive. I have about 18 thousand pictures and growing. Not all of them are nice enough for flickr lol. Don't worry I didn't lose any work. I have all my pictures on two machines(laptop and desktop), an external hard drive, DVD roms that I burn and CD roms I get buy when I get prints. I average about 300+ shots every outing I go on. So web hosting is not really an option for all of my work. However I don't really need to save all 18K but just can't seem to make my self delete the bad ones(nor do I have the time to go through them all).

I down loaded Opanda IExif viewer my I have 15,478 shutter releases on my Nikon D50 I wonder how many it is good for?

But thanks anyway I'm tring the google one now.

Once you get Picasa orginized the 1st time, it's really nice and easy to use. Plus it organizes everything on the hard drive neatly. Has pretty decent editing stuff for your general work. In fact, all the effects I've used in my photos were from screwing with Picasa. And then using NeatImage to clean up any grainy-ness:
