My growing collection

Well, my collection is probably going to double in size over the next week (don't get too excited I only have 2 now) so I figured I should have a place to put them all!

Anyway, my small collection of 2 xmods right now are as follows:

I've got a gen 1 skyline which I painted this weekend. My first time painting and my masking left a little bit to be desired, as well as my mixing. But after I did some touch-ups I can say I'm fairly satisfied with my first time.

I painted the rims too, to give the car a little contrast. I have to say they came out much better, but it's kind of hard to tell anyway.

Other than the paint, it's all RS upgrades that I got when I got it.

And my next car is a new GT-R. It's not much to look at on the outside, except I changed the wheels because I didn't like the stock ones. But on the inside is where I'm working on this one. All I've got so far is a bearing kit, GPM front knuckles (because one of my old ones cracked when I was changing the bearings) and a Speedy 05 motor (which I got cheap from a friend). I'm actually thinking about modifying the speedy 05, I've got some spare armatures laying around and could use some more speed.

I believe from what I've heard that I need to flip the brushes on that motor which I haven't done yet. Imagine the surprise on my face when I got it and it went backwards!

Anyway, in the next week here I'm hoping to get the body I ordered in the mail and use that on my evo chassis sometimes. And I'm also looking to get a supra (with chassis) sometime soon as well.

I'm gonna be looking forward to checking out the Buy/sell forum here when I get the 50 posts, but until then it's just ebay and atomic mods.

Anyway, I hope you like what I have so far/have planned, and please don't be too harsh on my bad paint job.:(

Dude, that paint job is pretty good. You just need to work on your masking skills from what I can see, other than that it looks nice and smooth.

Really like that Skyline, you kept it nice and simple. Which I am a huge fan of, simple is always really good looking when it comes to cars.

Well thanks, I do have a problem masking that I need to work on...I just wish there was an easier way!

Also a quick question, when I was painting, I had to put an extra coat of paint than I wanted to on there because my intended top coat looked flat when it dried, any idea why that might have been? I used the same mix when I painted over it and it came out fine...

you might have just held the airbrush too far away from the shell
and only the M1 endbell motors require brush flipping

Oh that might have been, I was nervous about the paint pooling (is that the right term?) from being to close. And that's good to know about the motor.

EDIT: It's the next day now, but I don't want to double post so I'll just update this one.

Well I was painting another model this morning and was feeling frisky so I decided to put a stripe thing down the side of my new GT-R, and it came out pretty good!

Well I've got good news and bad news...

Good news, I got a new mini-z body that I'm going to try and put on my evo chassis, and I got my v2.2 board in the mail!

Now for the bad news...I tried to put my v2.2 on myself...I think I might have done pretty bad...

I soldered everything in what I'm pretty sure are the right spots, I followed XXX's "better install" method, and Just checking now I didn't jump any of the pads together.

But a I went to put the batteries in and in about 30 seconds before I even got a chance to try it out the v2.2 got real hot and burned my hand:eyecraz: ,and the batteries were about equally as hot so I got them out in a hurry.

Basically I'm positive I did something wrong, and maybe I shouldn't have tried putting the v2.2 in myself since this is my second time soldering...and my first time didn't turn out either...

Anyway...does anyone know of a way to find out if my board is fried? (the v2.2 or normal one) Or of any way I might be able to get them fixed or something?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help that might come along. And also, here are some pictures of the new body I got just so this whole post isn't a downer.

get a multimeter and set it to "beep" and check if current goes thru and then check the fets

I seem to still have continuity. I went back and checked and re-soldered all of my connections, all of them seem fine. And I'm trying to think of this logically, if my batteries are heating up, and my v2.2 is heating up, then that means I have an issue where a power lead is getting to a ground where it shouldn't be correct? (trying to remember my automotive electrical class) Where might that be the case if the current is also going through the v2.2 board before it goes to ground?

I'm going to double check through the AM tutorial and see if that holds any answers...

On a side note, anyone ever put small fuses in their xmod?
